Took the scenic boat tour first. Very nice and informative. Any time is the right time to go. The azaleas were blooming as well as many other flowers.

We walked the gardens, toured the home and took the boat ride on the Fowl River. We had great tour guides at the house (Elisabeth) and on the Southern Bell (?). Grounds were nice, but we missed the peak on the azeleas and camelias. Our timing was off.

Sunshine, temperatures in the low 70's and spectacular azalea blossoms were all in our favor when we toured the garden. Lucky us. We were able to tour the garden during the week which meant less garden traffic. Would love to return when the roses are blooming. A very relaxing day.

We had visited this place about 10 years ago and it has not changed. We got there at the right time! The azaleas were in full bloom and they are everywhere in the gardens. Though this appears to be a great place for azaleas 90% of the gardens contain only one type which comes in 3 colors. Since there are many types of azaleas I had hoped for much more variety. They do have winter and summer annuals decorating many of the paths.
The house is very interesting and simply very curious. Definitely recommend visiting the house as well.

We had spent several hours at the USS Alabama memorial, and had second thoughts about trying to visit Bellingrath on the same day. I'm so glad we forged ahead and didn't miss this treasure! I am a gardener and so the 65-acre property, stunningly abloom with azealas, was heaven for me. But my husband enjoyed it just as much. The home tour provided a nice overview of the history of the property, and the story of Walter Bellingrath and family. The only disappointment was that we missed the last river tour of the day -- have to go back to do that. The admission pricing is nicely structured to allow visitors to choose the options for entry -- gardens, home and river tour. Choose what's of interest to you.
