Description: Opening its first location in Gulf Shores in 1983, the Original Oyster House restaurant quickly expanded and opened its second restaurant two years later on the Mobile Causeway. It soon became known as a Gulf Coast favorite for panoramic waterfront sunsets on the Mobile Delta, fresh Gulf Coast seafood and award-winning gumbo. Classics such as hand-battered fried crab claws, blackened Mahi and fire-grilled Gulf oysters kept locals and visitors coming back for more. A visit usually includes kids on the playground, seafood platters and Southern hospitality. Along with its take-out, homemade desserts and seafood gumbo, the Original Oyster House has been sending alligators home in kid's meals, and gives back to our community in sponsorships and donations. It has been recognized for its environmental practices including converting its fry oil into biofuel to transport, its solar water heaters and the only wind turbine on the Causeway, which generates electricity when winds reach 8 miles an hour or more. in 2016, the Original Oyster House piloted Alabama's FIRST Oyster Shell Recycling Program.

Have stopped here on many road trips through the Mobile area and never had a bad experience. Food is always tasty and the seafood is fresh. Get there early - there have been times when the wait for a table is long. Taking a seat at the bar and ordering off the menu there will usually speed you along.

Although the service was outstanding, and there are many great choices, the food didn't quite measure up to the hype. I'd still recommend if you are looking for a good seafood joint to experience.

After checking TA reviews, we stopped on a Sunday evening (about 6:00 PM) on the way home from a road trip to Louisiana. It is right on the causeway, with easy access to/from I-10. TA was right on with this one. The entire staff, from the hostess to the servers, were all very friendly and welcoming. It wasn’t quite full when we arrived so we were seated immediately. However, by the time we left at about 7:15 PM the parking lot was full (actually overflowing) and there was a line to get in.

They have an extensive menu and it took us some time to determine our selections. The service throughout our meal was attentive and friendly. We started with the fried dill pickles which were perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. I had Joe and Dave's Favorite Oysters (baked) which were some of the best I’ve ever had and my wife had the pecan crusted grouper which was prepared perfectly crispy on the outside and just right on the inside. All of our food was hot when it reached our table.

I disagree with some of the previous comments on the prices. We live on the coast in FL and the prices were not out of line with similar establishments and maybe even a little less. Definitely a good value, will stop here again when in the area.

Found this restaurant on tripadvisor and it did not disappoint.

Oyster sample appetizer was good, butter pecan group was a surprise treat (waitress recommended,) and the praline cheesecake was the topper.

Lots of TVs for Monday night football, good service, friendly staff, and surprisingly reasonable.

I'd suggest arriving after 7:30 p to avoid the crowd, but there is more room than there appears to be.

I will go back.
