We wanted to do something different for dinner this night and decided that Da Marco Italian restaurant would be the place. The ratings were consistently good and it wasn't too far from our hotel in Shanghai.

We arrived around 6:30pm and were very lucky to get in. There were just 2 of us so they were able to accommodate, but I would definitely recommend you call earlier in the day for a reservation. We did try calling before we arrived but the phone line was always busy.

We each had the same meal, Ceaser Salad and Salmon steak with potatoes, black rice and vegetables. There was so much salad we couldn't finish it all, along with ample bread ahead of the meal to dip in Olvie oil. We asked that our salmon not be over cooked and the chef did not disappoint us. It was superbly cooked.

I had a glass of Chardonay with my meal and Jonathan had a Stella Artois. Both of which were quite good.

Overall we would highly recommend this da Marco restaurant. While service was a little lacking, this was understandable as they were crazy busy. Overall a very good meal.

We went to the Pudong branch of this restaurant with the expectation of a casual eatery with good, home style food. We were sorely disappointed. Our starter was a caprese salad; the mozzarella was tasty, but there was no olive oil or basil with the salad leaving it rather flavorless. We shared two mains, a beef tortellini and a veal scaloppini in a marsala sauce. I had a hard time believing the 'veal' we were served was indeed veal; it tasted like a cheap cut of beef that had been chemically tenderized, and the meat was not breaded as scaloppini should be. The grilled vegetables that were served with the meat were cold and flavorless. The tortellini was not much better as it was obviously commercially mass produced and frozen. The sauce had hope, but was not enough to save the pasta. When I commented to the manager at the end of our meal how disappointed I was with the tortellini, he was unapologetic about the poor quality of food and admitted that all of the raviolis and tortellinis are not made in-house, but are purchased frozen for all the branches of this restaurant. Save yourself the trouble and skip this place.

We have been coming here for the past six years and the food is always good. We love the seabass ravioli and the linguine vongole. The pizzas are not bad too, though we usually end up packing it to go as the portions are largish. We have noticed that more and more locals are turning up, and the place gets packed for dinner most nights so reservations are essential if you are a large group. Service is generally fast but not all waitstaff are friendly and serve with a smile, as they seem to be rushed off their feet.

This place has Italian food to compete with restaurants in Europe. It is not catering to the Chinese or American palate. I had a homemade pasta which was perfect. The bread was fresh. The service good.

I just love this place, great food, wine, service and price! It can be for a romzntic diner, diner with friends or a business diner. Plus, they welcome you with a glass of champagne if you have to wait for your table.
