This is the 3rd HIE in Shanghai and this is by far and a way absolutely without question the very best. The staff and management were most helpful all a great credit to HIE. Fantastic free Wi-fi throughout the building. The only slight negative comment was the very annoying buzz on the CNN channel which made it almost impossible to watch, but I guess that this might not be a fault at HIE.

It's a Holiday Inn Express so you cold not expect more. Front desk is a liitle bit low efficient. Furniture is a little bit worn. Room & room service is ok cause it's Holiday Inn Express standard which the dental kit, shower gel, free water, locker, sofa are all available. The WIFI is a disaster in this Holiday Inn Express howerver the cable internet access is ok. For the location, I think it's ok because it's pretty near the Wujiaochang business area and Shanghai Fudan university. Hotel also have free underground parking.
Considering the value, it's not a bad choice.

The location was fine for me about 10 minutes walk from Guoquan road station of line10, there were several bus routes stop near the hotel.

The room was holiday inn express standard with sofa for relaxing and clean basic bathroom with amenities. The wireless internet was quite good in room. The International TV channel didn't worked well with some noisy and pause itself.

The free breakfast was below standards with poor choices of western food, and need to wait for a long time to make food or they just didn't make it more.

The front desk told me that elite member didn't need to deposit but had to pay the entire stay room rate upon check-in. Foreign credit card would be automatic DCCed (Dynamic Currency Conversion) here with high rate of commission and staff didn't know how to cancel it, so be aware of using aboard-issued visa/master card.

Room Tip: The higher floor might be quiter

I always like to try to be positive about hotel reviews.
This is a fairly cheap place to stay in Shanghai and if it is close to where you need to be, I'm sure you will find the location helpful.
Having also stayed in the HIE at Dubai airport this week, the comparison between the two is incredible.
I thought the bedrooms in Shanghai were very tired and dated, and smelled strongly of smoke. The check in staff really struggled to book 6 delegates in - this took over 45 minutes as they could not find the reservation.
And then on to breakfast... Oh dear. Cutlery and crockery ran out, cereals ran out, juices ran out. Coffee lukewarm. The poor staff on duty could not keep up with the demands of guests. All in all quite a poor selection.
We did not see many bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity, although there are plenty of shops to buy food and drink to have in your room.
Surely all HIE hotels have a common benchmark for room standards and breakfast ?
I haven't lost faith in the chain though and will no doubt stay in another at some point.

Room Tip: Request non smoking if you don't smoke!!
