I have stayed in many boutique hotels in different countries and I must say this is one of the best yet. One of the more unique feature of Urbn is its "green" hotel concept wherein a lot of the materials that they've used to build and design their property came from old, demolished buildings in different parts of Shanghai, thus lessening their carbon footprint. So throughout the hotel you would see small plaques stating where that particular building material or decor was originally from. Examples are the wall behind the reception made of antique luggages, the wall of old woks by the dining area, the bricks they used in the corridors that came from old buildings in the French Concession, the antique wooden planks that came from old boats. Very interesting concept. The room we had was spacious with a view of their courtyard. The tub was positioned outside of the bathroom thereby allowing you to soak while watching television or DVDs. The 'big' breakfast included was an assortment of Western breakfast fare (i.e. scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, etc.), coffee and freshly-squeezed orange juice, served overlooking their courtyard. They offer complimentary cocktails late afternoon and early evening, which we weren't able to try as we were out the whole time. The hotel itself, in Jing'an District, is in a very good location. The subway, busses, and taxis are easily accessible. The downside? I can't think of any.
Normally, I wouldn't want to stay in the same hotel twice as I'd like to check out different hotels whenever I go to the same place. But this one will be an exception as I wouldn't mind staying at this hotel again.
