“Cool Japanese Restaurant in the French Concession”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

I had low expectations before I went having had too much mediocre Japanese food in China. Not only is the food excellent, but the restaurnat is a very cool, sleek modern bit of architecture.

“Really cool, but they could step it up on the sushi”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

Shintori is an old factory and the room is very cool and not noisy even if it is big. I had a table at the balcony with view over the first floor, the kitchen and the bar. A very good start!

The waiters knew enough English to easily communicate around ordering, and they were also polite and present, but not exactly warm and welcoming, but it was good enough.

The food was also good enough, but quite plain. When you pay quite some money for the food, you kind of expect them to have close to the best fish on the market - this was more average. But all in all I had a great time at Shintori.

“Delicious food, Excellent ambience”
Reviewed April 3, 2012

Fully recommend this excellent restaurant. Sushi and sashimi fresh and delicious, especially the tempura prawn rolls. Special beef cooked on a rock is soft and delicious.
Very interesting layout and great ambience. Price was worthy of the quality. Strongly recommend.

“fusion Japanese food in post modern deco”
Reviewed March 29, 2012

Origional from Taipei, the Shintori Shanghai is hiden inside of bamboo ally in French concession. The open kitchen, spacy and post modern deco with detail touch of elegance, it has always been the favorite restaurant of international designers/ architects. My favorite dishes are Sashimi mix, Duck roll with beef touge.

“great place for fusion food and sushi bar”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

I am here every year at least once and it is still very good, but after so many years they could change the menu a bit and extend the wine menu for international customers (no really new white vintages). It is still one of the best restaurants for me and the freshness of the products, presentation etc is top
