We stayed at that hotel for an extented weekend trip.
Very good hotel with good service, friendly people and clean rooms. Also the gym and pool are worth to see, up on the 20th floor with a very good unspoiled view over Shanghai and the Bund.
The breakfast is excellent and offers chinese and western food.
The location is also very good and central. The small hutongs and the Bund can be reached within in 10-15 minutes walking.
All other downtown highlights are only 10 Taxi-Minutes away (depending on traffic).

On the whole the hotel is an excellent choice due to it's location and facilities. It is almost next to the subway and 10 minutes walk to the Bund.
We had really good service - especially from the restaurant staff. The rooms and facilities were clean and of a good standard. As for the concierge, there were a couple who were really helpful and quite knowledgeable (one in particular was Jacky) but unfortunately not many of the staff speak good English and were not able to help in terms of directions and recommendations.
I must commend the Front Desk staff for their really excellent service - they did as much as they could to make us feel welcome and provided the necessary information and help to make us feel at home.

Room Tip: As the surrounding buildings are not very tall, anything from 9th floor up would be great.

We stayed in this hotel for one night and would recommend this hotel. The accommodations are very good and comfortable. The staff service is also good, with the exception of the concierge. He wasn't very helpful and didn't speak English very well - so not up to par particularly for a Western hotel.

The main benefit of staying in this hotel is its location. Convenient to the subway (one block away) and from which no more than 10 -15 minutes to anywhere in Shanghai attractions. 15 minute walk to the Bund. There are other Tripadvisor members who recommend taking the subway from the Pudong Airport. I would not recommend this after a long flight, if you have luggage and particularly if you're a family. Though it's possible to take the rail into the city, we took a car service which was about $65 as we had several pieces of luggage. A taxi would be about $35.

We used the executive lounge which was very good. The views from the lounge is as great as standing on the Bund!

This Hotel is in the Old part of the Shanghai City. Shanghai City is divided into two parts just like Hongkong but on a much larger canvas. so Kowloon of HK is Puxi of Shanghai and Central Island sid of HK is Pudong of Shanghai. Now that we have the perspective, let me specify that Puxi is nothing close to what Kowloon is. It is probably 50 times bigger with a lotttttt more to do and see. Renaissance is very central and is right next to subway line 10. Very accessible to everywhere - Puxi side or pudong. Right next to yu garden souvenior and street shopping, next door to Yu yuan Gardens, very near to Nanxing steamed Bun Restaurant ( Min order 120 RMB ) if inside airconditioning seating and I think 30 RMB if kiosk order outside ) . In both cases, long queues( This is VERY VERY famous place for steamed dumplings ) -- PLS TRY.

Coming back to Renaissance Yu Garden, the hotel may not have a GRAND Porche or Bentleys and Maserati's parked in the front ( Audi is common though ;) , the hotel still commands respect from travllers who make this their dwelling place. Nice staff, courteous service, good location , nice shopping , What am I gonna do with Bentleys and Maserati anyways :).

Finally, Miranda, The Guest Service Manager... Very Efficient and Helpful

Stay there next time you in Shanghai.. Give it a shot!

Great facilities, great staff, great breakfast. A little pricey for China, but well worth the money. I am particularly thankful to the concierge staff: we made a mistake when reserving train tickets and the gentleman there did everything to help us.

Can not speak highly enough of the service - staff were fantastic, very helpful and happy, made us feel so welcome.Breakfast was fabulous even spoke to Chef most mornings. One of the best things we did was upgrade to club room and so enjoyed making new friends during the evening drink and nibble hospitality hour in the evening. Bed was very comfortable, housekeeping excellent - only thing is I want to go back and can't see when!

The hotel is a couple of blocks from Yu Yuan and within walking distance to Shanghai Museum. The neighborhood is interesting in that there are old houses and shops around. The hotel itself is modern and up to the usual Renaissance standard.
