“Excellent business hotel”
Reviewed June 14, 2012

This is an excellent hotel for a business trip. Quiet but not too far from Shanghai centre. Great attention to detail. Little things like a stapler in the desk drawer, are a nice touch when you're on a business trip.

The staff are very attentive. The breakfast is good but the restaurant is a little limited for an evening meal.

Many other facilities that I didn't get an opportunity to use.

If you want to be close to business locations at the Pudong Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, this is a good location and a good business hotel. The hotel is comfortable and has good rooms and a good restaurant with Chinese as well as Western food. The fitness is well equipped, also has a nice and clean swimming pool and sauna. The massage center delivers good massages.
The metro station (line 2) is on a 5 minute walking distance and brings you in 4 shops to the financial center (and the Pearl Tower area) in Pudong and after that to Puxi.

Myself and a colleague have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. It is situated a little away from the main tourist areas but everything is accessible either by taxi (good value) which the hotel can arrange for you, or by a short walk to the metro station which is on line 2.
The metro stop is 1 or 2 stops to the International Exhbition Centre depending which entrance you want to go in.
There is a food mall next door to the hotel which has a good selection of restaurants (inexpensive) and a Starbucks.
The hotel and room itself was very clean and staff very attentive. English is always a slight issue but did not cause us any problems. The only issue we had was with the weak wifi signal, working from the room was difficult, althought the business centre was open most of the time. Breakfast was very good as was the dinner we ate in the hotel (I have an allergy to gluten and staff were able to assist me) - although the wine list is very expensive. The gym is small but very well equipped and the pool was excellent. The bar is a little small situated in the main lobby and drinks are made elsewhere and brought in. Not really a problem but a large bar would have been nice. On one night we asked the concierge to find us a Brazilian restuarant. After a little time they came up with a restaurant called Rico Rico which is a mix of Spanish and South American. If you are staying in Shanghai I would definitely recommend this, food was excellent.
All in all a very good business hotel and the next time we stay in Shanghai, we will definitely try to rebook here providing it is the same very good value.

5 minutes walk from exit 5 of the metro station, next to big cinema and restaurants building (KFC and Pizza Hut for western food lovers, Starbucks and plenty of Chinese restaurants) .

Excellent breakfast buffet, reasonably priced massages (198 RMB for 60 minutes), super clean pool and sauna area.

Large rooms and big bathroom (shower only), all amenities and fast speed free internet.

Comfortable bed.

Taxis in front of hotel.

English speaking staff- what else can one wish?

Highly recommended!

I am currently staying here for a conference. The Parkyard is located in an industrial/commercial zone but there's a good-sized shopping mall next door with a variety of restaurants. It is a smaller hotel but well run, stylish, clean, with comfortable rooms and an excellent pool and fitness center. The hotel also provides a lot of nice thoughtful touches, such as fresh fruit in your room, a free e-book library with over 4,000,000 volumes, and a DVD player in the room.

However, the best reason to book this hotel is the free wired and wireless internet. The Parkyard's internet VPN's to a server in Taiwan, which means that it is not only blazingly fast, but also circumvents the "Great Firewall of China." You'll be able to access Facebook, Youtube, and other sites that are normally restricted in this country.

I've been to Shanghai many times and always stayed in the central downtown Nanjing Road area. At the recommendation of a friend and after reading Tripadvisor reviews, I decided to try the Parkyard Hotel.

From the outset, let me say that this is a hotel geared to business/conference travellers, given its location in the Pudong business district. However, the subway station is only 10 minutes walk away - and 6 or so stations and about a 15 minute train ride away from the downtown/tourist area.

Also next door is a mall full of reasonably priced eating options - restaurants with all varieties of asian cuisine - and for the true gourmand, there's a KFC and a Pizza Hut! Hehehe!

The hotel itself is about two years old with a simple but warm decor - greys, browns and blacks. I had a Business Suite on the 4th Floor. The reasonable rate included breakfast and internet. The hotel is quiet. No noise from either outside or from adjoining rooms.

The suite is clean and well cared for. The sitting room is spacious, with a large screen plasma TV and a spacious desk. The TV has an internet connection and keyboard and there is also a DVD player. The sitting room also contains the standard bar fridge, room safe and tea/coffee making facilities. The bedroom contained a VERY comfortable king size bed and a smaller TV. The bathroom is spacious with a separate bath and shower (a MUST for me). Both bathtub and shower are of generous proportions. There is also plenty of cupboard and drawer space.

My only quibble with the room (and the hotel itself) was the lack of English-language TV channels (only CNN, HBO, Cinemax and ESPN) amongst the 40-channel selection menu.

The Internet at this hotel is a plus. The Wifi signal was excellent and I had no need of the wired option which was also available. The plus is that, not only was the internet free, it was brought in from satellite elsewhere and hence uncensored - all the no-no sites like Facebook and the like were freely available.

Breakfast is served in the main ground floor restaurant. I can't say that it's the best hotel breakfast I've experienced, but it was perfectly fine. Selections are good, the food is fresh and well presented and suits both the businessman needing an early breakfast before heading of, or someone who wants a late breakfast (until 10:30am) and who prefers to eat a later brunch.

Finally, the nicest thing about this hotel is the staff. Everyone was pleasant and attentive. I especially want to mention Justin (the Head Concierge) and his team for whom nothing was ever a problem. If you have any question about Shanghai, getting around, places to see and recommendations of where to eat, then Justin's your man!

Overall, if you're a business person looking for a great place in the Pudong area, this is a great hotel to stay at. If you're a tourist looking for a 5 star hotel at a 4 star price, and you don't mind hitting the subway to get around, this is also a great place.

I said this in another review that I wrote about a Shanghai hotel some time ago, but it's worth repeating here. The subway in Shanghai is perfectly safe, clean and punctual. Signs and announcements are in English also - so navigating your way around is no problem. And it's certainly worthwhile getting an accrued-value touch-and-go card. They only cost 20 Yuan and save you having to keep loose change about your person and the need to buy a ticket every time you use the subway.

Room Tip: Paying the little extra for a Business Suite - especially if you're staying for more than a few...

We stayed here 10 days. It is business hotel. To my opinion it is a great place to stay.

Just some items:
- They have a huge breakfast buffet with all kinds of food.
- The swimming pool is clean and perfect to swim lanes. It is less suitable for kids to play in, but then again, it is perfect for business people of couples to exercise.
- The sauna is good and has a cold and hot tub.
- Live music every evening.
- Very close to metro line 2, so within 30 minutes you are at East Nanjing Road.
- Small shopping mall nearby with restaurants and a food market outside (close to metro). Very good streetfood.
- Price is in balance with what you get. We paid around 700 rmb per night. Compared to European prices you get much more value for money.
- Clean
- Well equiped rooms.

The only thing that could be better is the ability of the staff to speak english. Some spoke bad or no english.
You also had to pay for the business center. Wifi is free, but in business center you had to pay to use the internet and to print a page. Stupid.
