“Perfection again”

Stayed 2 further (separate) nights this China trip and found the Bund Club to be the perfect location yet again! Good place to meet contacts in the day, great staff, nice food and drink (wish Happy hour in the Bund Club would run a little longer as I somehow seen to arrive in the Hotel just at its closing) and superb Vue Bar for a relaxing drink or 2!

I came hear with great anticipation and I was not disappointed: great reception (she showed us 2 rooms with a view, one at Club level with breakfast and high speed internet-later- and one on 11th floor). All rooms are about same size, same amenities: you would be paying 500RMB (on special) more for 1 or 2 breakfasts! We took the 11th floor room, which was actually a little bigger than the Club Level one. The view of the Bund, as everyone writes is to die for; so no regrets. The rooms are nicely furnished.

Now comes the big surprise... the bathrooms. I have been to China 8 times and I have noticed that architects are willing to sacrifice convenience for aesthetics. Where else do you have bathrooms all enclosed in glass so your roommate sees you or your shadow going about your business? Imagine the extra cost of daily cleaning: makes no sense! At least in most other hotels they have an automatic curtain that could come down. Here, no. The shower room is enclosed in glass, and the toilet (separate) is also enclosed in glass! The top of both is open, so everyone knows what you are coin!!! There is, one must admit, very heavy wood doors that you "could" drag around and enclose the whole area, but you would have to do it each time you use the bathrooms, and, in addition, all the bathroom lights are outside that wooden enclosure (another very annoying feature of most Chinese and European hotels: the bathroom lights are outside not inside, so you will always wake up your partner at night. Back to the Hyatt's bathroom/toilet glass-enclosed open-top combination, no matter what you do, if you are a couple, you will be semi-embarrassed all day and disturbing your partner at night. Much worse if you are a family.

Now, let us go where you only storage is: in small open corner on top of where you can place your bag: any long dress will cover the bag, and you must kneel down in a very uncomfortable position to get to the safe.

In the belief that giving one access to the Internet is a gift, the Hyatt gives you 2 options: free low speed (basic, for email) and high speed (videos, etc.) at an exhorbitant price. It seems, all around the world, that the more you pay, the less you get, as it is assumed you can still afford to pay a bit more.

Will I ever stay at the Hyatt on the Bund when back in Shanghai? With so much choice, why?

Room Tip: Choose one with a view. Make sure that you are a single person when reserving: not suitable for c...

i stayed at Hyatt on a business trip to Asia. The overall service is really good ,only slightly behind what you experience on similar hotels in Hong Kong or Singapore.
The decoration is absolutely superb all over the place- from the spa/fitness facilites to the Vue bar on the top. The view over the riverfront from Vue bar is unbeliveable, no wonder it is one of the most trendy places in Shanghai.
From my room on the 8th floor i had also a fantastic view -but go to Vue bar if you stay at the hotel.
Only the pricelevel makes the total experience not excellent. Level is Hoing Kong/Singapore + which are on the high end taking service into consideration.

Close to the river and with high up rooms having amazing views this is a great place to stay in Shanghai . the rooms were good and river front ones have great views over the night time lights. service from all I met was good and being allowed to check in after a long flight at 9.30 a m was a big plus . The rooftop Vue bar was great as was the Chinese restaurant on the ground floor . Being able to stroll down the Bund from the front door as well as being centrally located for visiting Shanghai ' sights ' was all positive . It's big 5 star hotel so don't expect the personal touch although I have to say staff who you met more than once or twice remembered you and tried to make it less impersonal . Drinks , breakfast and other ' extras ' were at 5 star + prices as you'd expect

Room Tip: it's worth getting a room facing the river on a high floor . You'll see the other side from...

I had flown to Shanghai on Business and stayed at the Hyatt on the Bund. To get the full effect you must book a room above the 24 floor overlooking the river, absolutely breathtaking at night! The rooms are large, clean, comfortable and nice bath area with separate shower stall and toilet. The hotel has an outstanding morning and lunch buffet which caters to all tastes. Another item to know is that it is walking distance to the Bund walkway. A very enjoyable area to walk anytime of the day right along the river. I visited in mid March and the weather was a bit rainy but when the sun came out it was lovely. Must include that the city is very crowded; just be prepared.

I've stayed at this hotel a few times and I must say that the service level keeps improving. Rooms with great views of the Bund. Clean and spacious. Club lounge on the 3rd floor was comfortable and service adequate.
