Very nice hotel, as expected. Had a non-smoking room which smelled real bad of smoking. I quickly was moved to a new room, and had senior managers apology. They upgraded me for free for Club access for entire stay due to this small incident.
Try the steak on the restaurant at 32floor as well as the rooftop bar there. Peking duck at Chinese restaurant at lobby is also very good.
Hotel is also very good for conferences.

.....not much else. So if you don't get a high room, with a really good view forget staying here. The hotel styles itself as 5 Star but it isn't really. On paper it has it all. In reality, rooms are tired, chipped veneer, stained carpets, cheap fittings and pillows that smell (faintly) of other unwashed heads. F&B is unimpressive; breakfast especially a (Shanghai) bun fight in a dark, crowded space. The staff are OK but you have to work hard to get what you need, which is tiring. So, all in all, don't bother. Nowadays there are plenty of great places to choose from in Shanghai..

Of the four rooms we had booked, three of them were not ready when we checked in at 2.30pm. This was not a good start, as most of these hotels are not forgiving if you over-run the check-out time. Check-in itself took 45 minutes. The one room we were given to store the luggage while the others were made up was indeed a River View room, but with an excellent view of a large piece of concrete. The river was in the corner and barely viewable. We explained to the bellboy that we were paying extra for a view of the river and could he therefore organise one? Give him his due, he did get front desk to allot another. It was a pokey room. If you do decide to stay after reading this review, please ask for one of the bigger rooms - roughly numbers 07-15.

Lunch, a la carte, was something you might expect from a second rate beach bar in Koh Samui. Sadly the prices were not. Food came in 25 minutes? The curry resembled slop nothing like anything from India or Thailand, as did the chemically softened 'beef' in chilli sauce. The rice was soggy and overcooked. The burger was a nice sized cooked-to-death patty on bun. That was it. The spicy chicken noodles were good. But what costs CNY7 on the street was now about 60Y after tax etc. So one would hope they were good.

Breakfast with the Hyatt, at 240Y was the usual Hyatt spread, though not as good as the one in Hangzhou.

Internet costs 120Y per day for 2 machines. A third machine costs an extra 120Y. Surprisingly they dont warn you of this. My wife and I, with 2 laptops and an iPhone therefore ended up paying 240Y for internet. In this day and age, internet should be included in the room price anyway, especially when you are paying 1800Y for a room. And 240Y is plenty enough to get a room in Shanghai with internet. What irony.

The staff were friendly enough, but my guess is that the good managers have been sucked up by the two other Hyatts in Shanghai, and Hyatt on the Bund have been left with the runts who couldn't organise their way out of a paper bag.

Thoroughly disappointing stay.

Room Tip: Ask for bigger rooms facing Pudong. Puxi facing rooms are pokey and have limited views. The bathro...

This hotel that has the most spectacular view on the river is in need of urgent renovation of
carpets and furniture if it wants to maintain a Five star status. Staff is very friendly.

Room Tip: To look at the Colonial side choose the East tower, to look at the Modern Pudong the West tower. To...

I really enjoyed the amazing river views from my room during my three-night stay, as well as the lovely bathroom design and electronic curtains shutting off all bits of disturbing light. It is so nice to have a separate shower and bathtub when travellling with my friend, a bath person, while I am a shower person. The trendy night club, very popular with the locals, with 360 degree views near the top of the building, also was a fun visit at night. Breakfast was extensive and the service excellent. However, the internet access at the Business Center's computers was abysmal, much worse than my old dial-up days, and it had no free minutes at all. I could not believe the quality of the connection; the woman working there had to try three different computers before I even could start checking my email. Also, the main lobby smelled like fish and had no comfortable seating.

Great location and convenient to and from Pudong and Puxi. The Chinese restaurant on the lobby floor is excellent but because of the kitchen is opened, it is rather smoky.
