Shanghai is a very busy, prosperous city and this is the first time that we stayed in Hongqiao away from the tourists and it's been a good experience. Stayed 3 nights. Enjoyed the nice, big room with lots of drawers to put one's belongings. The fluffy towels serve my body well.
Millennium is within walking distance to Carrefour, a huge supermarket and department store. Also within that complex is a food court with many choices. It was packed with local people at lunch hours. It's a change of scene being surrounded by local folks than tourists.
Breakfast buffet is average. The big inconvenience is wifi is not included in the room rate so we paid 120RMB a day but it was so very slow or sometimes no reception at all. We talked to the front desk and they said they couldn't do anything about it - frustration and irritating after all. Somewhere I read Millennium is a "Business" hotel and it boggles my mind that wifi is not provided in a so called "Business" hotel. Other than that, our stay has been good.

Dear fountainhongkong,
many thanks for expressing your experiences during your recent stay with us.
We are happy to read that you enjoyed our facilities and the surrounding area. Hongqiao and Gubei are in a business area and easy access is provided to all Tourist sites such as Yue Gardens, Nanjing Road etc.either by Metro Line 10 or by Taxi.
We are a bit puzzled by your comments in regards to the Internet quality as we recently upgraded (2 months ago) our systems which should provide a smooth and positive experience, our IT assistant is always ready to assist. Internet charges including WiFi are generally not included at major Hotels in Shanghai, although we do provide Room packages which do include the WiFi and internet.
We look forward to welcome you once again in the not too distant future, with best regards

This is a nice enough hotel. It is definitely comfortable and the bathroom is also very nice. I just felt it lacked a little flair for a hotel of this level and also it seemed slightly outdated. But other wise, I had no problems with it. It was comfortable and the service was good. I would just improve the inner appearance more.

This hotel is outside of the main tourist areas but has all the amenities of an inner-city location. The rooms are luxurious and generously sized. There was a multiple-port charger in our room (pay for wi-fi). We stayed on the Executive floors and had access to the additional services of the executive concierge and staff. This was particularly helpful since we were travelling as a group of 11 and there were lots of arrangements for regional trains, sight-seeing transportation, restaurant bookings and shopping trips over the course of a 5 night stay.

The most memorable aspect of our stay were the staff - mainly English speaking, thoughtful and very friendly. Great recommendations from various staff for places to shop and things to see and do.

If you plan to sightsee, allow travel time from the hotel in traffic to The Bund and historical areas (approx 30-40 minutes). A hotel car is available for hire.

Very close by is Hongqiao Silk City/Pearl City - a shopping centre with over 100 stores selling local silk, cashmere and pearl goods. Highly recommend the short walk to this shopping mecca. For everyday requirements, there is a Carrefour within walking distance.

We dined according to the concierge's recommendations and enjoyed the local and international restaurants suggested.

All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel - it may not have a Bund location, but is very good value for money for the high quality of amenities and service.

Room Tip: In general, truly smoke-free rooms in China are difficult to find. Even if no one has smoked in the room, they may have brought smoke-odours in on their belongings. This hotel has non-smoking rooms but if your room smells of smoke staff are happy to change your room allocation or provide a housekeeping freshen-up service.

For luxury week-end in Shanghai, Millennium hotel was perfect.
Nothing bad to mention : it's perfect in the bedroom, for breakfast and with an overall efficient smily contact with hotel staff. The beer bar in the garden of the hotel, near Sato japanese restaurant worths also to be tried...
Really good hotel to trust.

My first trip to Shanghai and stayed at the Millenium. The rooms were big and fresh, very modern. The only drawbacks were no USB charging ports, I actually plugged 1 device into the usb port on the flat screen to charge (thats a tip for the less techie travelers out there). Had a few issues with airconditioning throughout the hotel but they may be due to seasons changing and smog rules in Shanghai. They did get it fixed and everyone was happy. The restaurant on site is 24hr buffet and I must say the choices of food was pretty good and the quality for a buffet was very good.
All in all I would stay here again!

Room Tip: Upper floors keep the noise down during the happy hour.

Dear Steve R, many thanks for comments in regards to your first stay with us and we appreciate your constructive comments.
Indeed the Air condition can be a problem for us here especially in between season and as you mentioned we have been able to rectify this.
Our IT Butler could have assisted you with the USB charger, however appreciate your resourcefulness in using the TV, they actually all have several access points incl. HDMI, etc. which can be useful to business men wanting to check presentations etc.
We are happy that you enjoyed our Buffet as you say it offers a great variety of items, additionally we have also Set-Menus and a Pizza/Pasta Menu to satisfy the large variety of guests we host.
Thanks again and we look forward to welcome you back soon
