I'm staying at the Longemont Hotel and it is a beautiful property. As I find with many hotels around Asia, the room quality exceeds anything we'd ever expect in the US and of course so does the service. And as is so often the case when you are on business somewhere, I've been a prisoner in the hotel for two days now so i feel qualified to report on its charms. The bed is large, down covered and comfortable. The TV is large and has lots of English channels (by lots I mean lots compared to European hotels. There are at least a few movie channels some news stations, etc. I haven't studied it in depth). There is a lot of closet and drawer space. The bathroom is a amazing with a massive tub i haven't tried yet and a lovely circular stall shower with excellent pressure from the huge rainfall shower head. I am an absolute FREAK about noise and it's actually pretty quiet. I am 31 stories over a heavily trafficked road and I can hear the ubiquitous Chinese horns blaring but they sound far off in the distance. Most normal people that didn't have oversensitive spidey hearing probably wouldn't notice. I've only tried the Italian restaurant (with trepidation, LOL) and found it really good! It had a large varied menu and quite a few nice wines by the glass. However, the things that are not perfect here are the internet connection and the location. The main thing is the wireless. The speed and the spotty connection are enough to drive you mad if you are as dependent as i am. I spent hours last night trying to email presentations to a client and i am now in the business center writing this review as ironically, the internet timed out again when i tried to submit it. But....sometimes these things differ from room to room AND the business center seems pretty good so if you don't have a huge connectivity need, it will be minor for you. The other negative is the location if you are a tourist. And since i am going to be a tourist after today, I am moving to a better location near the Bund. This really isn't a place where you can walk out of the hotel and walk many places. BUT...this is Shanghai and $3 in a cab will get you just about anywhere. If you're looking for value for money, I'd stay here for sure. It's a beautiful place.
