“Poor Hotel”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

Considering the huge amount of choice one has when they visit Shanghai, I would highly recommend looking else where if terms of accommodation.
First impressions were very good, the building itself is beautiful however, the good first impressions soon vanished after visiting my room. I am in the process of moving to another hotel so I'll make this short.

Bad Points:
No window
Air con making a ridiculous screeching noise so sleeping was made impossible
Many light bulb failures
Glasses provided for tea/coffee were not clean
Bathroom was disgustingly dirty
Shower did not work
Bath only worked at a dribble (would not have taken a bath anyway considering it's condition)

Good Points
Nice pillows

I wanted a cheap hotel with a convenient Bund location -- and this definitely fit the bill. I paid around US$50 for my final night in Shanghai. The hotel is on a side street just off the Bund, and within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. There is a subway stop about five minutes away, too. The room was just OK, if not a little small with no window. But -- I wasn't planning to spend time in the hotel room, other than sleeping. If two people had shared that room, I could see it being an extremely tight squeeze, especially with luggage considered. If you are looking for a full-service hotel with an onsite spa and all of that, then this hotel won't make you happy. But if you are on a budget and want a hidden gem in the middle of the action, then this place is definitely for you. I would stay here again.

So many hotels I visit are the same. The same furniture, the same colour scheme. They are satisfactory but they are monotonous. This hotel breaks with that business hotel style. It is furnished in the 1930's Art Deco style throughout. This is very in keeping with the location, just of the Bund and Nanjing Road which were built during the colonial period of Shanghai. The Art Deco style of the hotel takes you back and lets you imagine that you are in 1930's Shanghai, before the war.

The location is good. The hotel is on a quiet street just off of the main tourist streets. The Bund and Huangpu river are just yards away as it Nanjing Road. The Nanjing Road East subway station on line 2, is also very close by and so are a great many restaurants, shops, bars and such like.

It should be noted that Nanjing Road has become Shanghai's red light district. Single men walking on this road at night may be approached by some less than reputable women. However, the business is confined to just that road. Walking the nearby streets, such as those beside the hotel, was no problem.

As other reviewers have said, it's a really tightly packed room with an even tighter packed bathroom! I had no window / natural light, so indeed it was dim, but I slept like a baby. It was kept spotlessly clean whilst I was there. I was travelling solo, so for me it was absolutely fine. Good location not far from Nanjing Rd.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 days during my first solo trip to Shanghai. Room is quiet ok, but a bit dim for me. Bed is comfortable but the bathroom is small, feels like you are on the airplane's lavatory :D but it's fine for solo travelers like me. location is good too. it is about 10 mins away from the subway, nanjing road and about 3 mins away from the bund. you just need to cross the road, and the bund is right in front of your eyes already :) It also has a mall nearby if in case you need to buy something. Also staffs speak good english. they helped me provide instructions to the cab driver on where to take me.

We stayed in Sep 2013 in this Hotel & it was really very disappointing to see their rooms, we had booked a superior room with window, but no window was there, only 1 frosted glass was there behinh the bed & that too covered, so no use to purchase superior room & on top of that A.C was not at all good & they were not even cooperative to provide us with standing fan & when we complained again & again, they told us to take the fan from the reception, since they didn't have staff.
I would personally do not recommend to book this hote.

I stayed at deluxe room with window. The room is good but air condition doesn't cold. The temperature outside was better. The location of this hotel is good for walking to the Bund and Nanjing road. Near hotel has convenient stores and some of restaurants. Anyway it's difficult to find a taxi in this area. Talking about service, I felt very disappointed with service here. The staff is unhelpful.
