Was only there for 1 night last weekend. Nice hotel with decent sized twin room. Don't understand why others complained of small rooms! They must be giants...

Short walking distance to the train station and main shopping stretch.

Overall good, but would be better with this improvements: -

1. if the in room dining menu was placed more prominently. I couldn't find it after searching for 10 mins. Either it wasn't in the room or hidden very well. Didn't call for a menu as figured by the time they came up with the menu, I finish choosing my food and blah blah, I would be asleep; and

2. if the bellhop who calls for the cabs would write the taxi license on a card and pass it to the guest, especially for lone female passengers. Might serve as a deterrent for taxi drivers to pull any stunts if they knew their license plate no had been taken down. Many 4/5 star hotels do that now.

The above points didn't taint the experience, just would have made it better.

Dear Utopia,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on tripadvisor with regards to your recent stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel Shanghai New World. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. The In-Room Dining (Room Service) menu is in the Guest Room Directory placed on the writing desk, that's the book with a blue suede cover. As for the noting of the taxi number and handing it to the guest, this is in fact a standard operating procedure at the hotel and it seems like the staff concerned failed to do it, thank you for bringing it to my attention, I will have further staff training on getting this right. I look forward to welcoming you back should your travels bring you back to Shanghai.

Kind regards,

Maurice

We had two rooms booked at the Radisson Blu for 5 nights but we were offered a complimentary upgraded to a two bedroom suite. Having spent the previous two weeks in tiny Japanese hotel rooms, we were very pleased to accept the upgrade.

The suite was lovely and spacious with a huge living/ dining/kitchen area, big bedrooms and well proportioned bathrooms. The hotel was very clean, the staff were courteous and with good English. We had room service one night and the food was tasty and fresh and consistent with a good 4 star hotel. The hotel is well positioned near the rail station, East Nanjing Road mall and a 1.6km level walk to The Bund.

We were woken by very loud building work noise at the shopping centre next door at 2am on one occasion. A call to reception and the problem was fixed and we had a good night's sleep. Staff were very responsive and friendly and sorted out the problem within 15 minutes.

Drinks at the bar on level 47 were reasonably priced and we had a great view over the city of Shanghai.

Excellent experience.

This is a great hotel at an excellent location. A little pricy but definitely worth based on location and convenience. We book through eztravel.com.tw and got a very good deal. The room is big and overlook people's square. On top there is 360-degree restaurant good for lunch (reasonable price during lunch).

Location & surrounding:
Although the distance is around 40kms from Pudong airport, this hotel is located in central business district with access to almost all corners of Shanghai. Less expensive than hotels on the Bund, its actually 10 mins walking distance from Bund. Popular attractions nearby include Madam Tussaud's (which is adjoining), Nanjing road shopping street. its on a busy street which is live even at midnight, means its very safe. Metro stations, fast food chains, taxi stands, HOHO (Hop On Hop Off) bus station, are bang opposite the hotel - making it very convenient to any traveller.

Hotel:
Ensure that you call up the hotel and reserve high floor room for yourself (26 floors and above). Hotel provides good in-room dining service, and Sky Bar is worth a visit.

Overall a very good stay.

Room Tip: Book top floor rooms in advance, as that provides best view of the Shanghai skyline.

Room is small but cost 975 RMB. Breakfast is 200 RMB but just like ordinary level.
Location is ok, right in the city centre. But prepare to pay for it.
The work table is too small and chair is not comfortable. The layout is not spacious at all.

The Radisson Blu Shanghai is a great choice if you're in Shanghai.

Rooms were comfortable, nice amenities, and chocolate at turn down (I had read a review that said they gave you more if you asked - so of course I asked, and they do!). Free wifi in room. Our room had a great view, I think we were the 15th floor. View would have been much better if it was not so smoggy (Shanghai smog has its own name: Shmog - expect it).

Location is just across the street from a subway station - you can get to pretty much any train from there. It's right by lots of shopping and just a few blocks from Nanjing Road, a famous shopping street. About a 30-minute walk to the Bund, which is where you get the iconic views of the Shanghai skyline.

Breakfast buffet was sufficient. It was not as many choices as some of the hotels we stayed at elsewhere in China, but it did have a nice variety of both western and Chinese foods, so there is plenty to start your day.

The Sky Dome bar at the top would be great if the city was not so smoggy. I would imagine views are spectacular on a clear night - we had smog and it was limited. Some fun cocktail offerings, and a live band on the night we were there. The main problem is it's very smoky. Like much of China, smoking is allowed in restaurants. Even if you are not sitting near a smoker, the restaurant seems to trap the smoke and it became hard to breathe, so we had to leave. If it was clear inside and outside, it would have been nice!

Room Tip: Higher floors will give better views (if there is no smog).

My wife, 13-year old son and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights as part of our 2 week tour of China in June. We were given a room on the 37th floor so had a great view.
