I traveled solo (female) and stayed in this hotel Feb of 2011 and was initially surprised of the nice building, nice lobby and good rooms they had at the average price I paid. The room itself was nice, with good view of the city, coffee and tea making facilities and free canister of tea leaves (not tea bags) they provide daily.

The location is good, walking distance to the bund shopping area, museums, coffeeshops, convenience store and the very huge bookstore I have ever seen.

It is also a very short walking distance to a VERY GOOD chinese food stall nearby great food very good price (ask the reception for dimsum and noodles resto nearby).

The service however was below average. I was unfortunately pick pocketed in one of the shopping malls at the bund (beware of females suddenly bumping into you) so I went back to the hotel and asked for their help in reporting it to a police. They refused, they said I should be the one to go to the police station myself (late at night) and report since they are "afraid" of the police. When they asked what was missing from my wallet and I told them that aside from my driver's license I only lost less than hundred yuan they laughed and the asst manager even said the pick pocketer might contact me to sell me back my license in exchange for cash! Not a nice thing to say to harassed female traveler who just got pick pocketed at night.

Without the incident though, I would have given this hotel an excellent rating.

A truely four star hotel. Pleasant reception staff, speaking enough English to be understood. We had a room with wonderful views of the city especially when illuminated at night. The room itself was clean and spacious and despite not being a smoke free room there were no residual smells of smoking. Breakfast was a buffet but with ample choices of oriental and western foods. It is located within a 5 minute walk of the Bund riverside and famous Nanjing shopping street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has a view of the city

I stayed at this hotel and thought the room was going to be noisy, as the door was opposite the elevators and the window opened onto an atrium which overlooked the dining area. I must admit I slept well in spite of noisy people in the corridor early in the night, and think it would have been a lot worse if the dining area had been busy. The room was spacious, with a double and single bed, a couch and two armchairs, and the bathroom was adequate with a shower and separate bath. The restaurant had a very limited menu for dinner, and my main gripe was that, in spite of the hotel being conveniently located in a tourist area close to The Bund, hardly any of the staff spoke English. The most helpful person was in the business centre, as when I tried to open emails everything was in Chinese, and she let me use her computer.

Everytime I come to Shanghai I stay at this hotel. It is very well located in Downtown Shaghai and it is very easy to get anywhere from the hotel.

Rooms are large and the Breakfast buffet is quite OK. Reception staff is professional and competent.

I would even consider it for leisure visits to Shanghai, even with kids.

It is affordable as well, so it is a very good choice.

I have recently returned to Australia after spending 3 nights as a guest at The Bund.. As an elderly person, ...I travelled with my daughter... I tend to like my creature comforts.. Everything we could have wished for was available to us at The Bund..Our breakfasts were better than adequate with a variety of choices, and the staff always pleasant and greeted us with a smile. Our room was clean, and neat and warm and the walk in Shower recess was a blessing for me as an arthritic person.. Needing an anti slip mat in the shower is important to me and I used one at the side of the bath tub which was not in very good condition, next day it was replaced with a new mat Full marks for that.. The ATM machine in the lobby was most convenient also.. We did not eat at the hotel, but rather took our evening meals at the most excellent restaurant across the road.. The concierge and staff were first class, despite having a little bit of bother with our Aussie accents.. All in all a very good place to stay

Room Tip: Just go with the flow and enjoy the experience..
