Solid choice for basic room at reasonable rate. Internet was slow and I would like wireless in room. Bed is soft. Staff friendly and competent.

I've stayed 3 or 4 times in this hotel for business trips. Rooms are clean and big, service is pretty decent and the bed is big and comfy. Breakfast is the average Chinese continental food, but it's OK.

Internet is paid in the room, but free Wi-Fi in the lounge. Location is quite OK, not far from many places in Shanghai. A little far from the Bund though, but reachable quickly by car using the elevated road.

Room Tip: Try to ask for the rooms with a nice view, the're generally more expensive, but I've managed...

I stayed at this hotel for business and it was surprisingly good. Clean rooms, comfortable bed, nice bathroom, efficient check in/out and the location is very good too! I don't like the breakfast but thank God for their egg station. Will stay at this hotel again :)!

I regularly go to China for business and always make this Hotel my first and last night, as I fly in and out of Shanghai. The standards are always high with great staff and clean rooms.
The Hotel is well located and offers a very good selection of places to eat.
It is close to the Underground and one can very soon travel around Shanghai for very little money. All ticket machines and stations are dual language.
One note of warning do not assume that taxi drivers can read. The concierge will get you to your location make sure that you have someone who can you back.

This otherwise nice and well located Hotel missed our personal highest rating as unbelievably it was the only one of a half dozen we stayed at in China that charged a considerable fee equiv to $20 US a day for use of the LAN Cable.....worse than that it charged in small blocks up to a daily max and you had to re sign on even if you paused during a session....the weak excuse given by the duty manager was that they keep the rates down but charge for internet....while we cannot really fault the Hotel otherwise this left a bad taste a sort of attitude problem....with all the great Hotels Trip Advisor can get for you I would give this one a miss. We were booked in there by China Travel Service out of Hong Kong who otherwise did a superb job.

Room Tip: This Hotel faces a major expressway but is completely soundproof....it is near the start of one of t...

Dear valued guest,

Thank you for staying at the Hotel Equatorial Shanghai recently. We sincerely hope that your stay with us was comfortable and enjoyable.

With regards to your comments on the internet charges, I would like to clarify this issue with you. The hotel levies a charge of RMB 120 per day, this is to recoup some of the cost of operating the system.

Most of the hotels in Shanghai are charging a similar price for this service. The information about this charge appears in the log on web-page before using the internet service. However, the guests can enjoy the free Wi-Fi coverage in most of the hotel public areas, such as the hotel lobby, club lounge, Cafe65 etc.

Thank you very much for your time. We sincerely solicit your continuous patronage.

I had recently stayed at the HES for almost six months and I must say the stay was a very enjoyable one. Located in the heart of the Jing An district, the location of the hotel is very convenient and everything is easily accessible, especially the subway station which is a 4 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly and most of them spoke English well. I have to thank the Duty Manager Andrew Xie who speaks fluent English. Andrew helped me with every enquiry that I had and I recommend speaking with him if you need something or have any questions about the hotel and/or Shanghai. The rooms are a bit out dated, but they had all the amenities required for an enjoyable stay. The fitness center and pool area were clean and the gym equipment was new. The Café 65 (restaurant) served delicious Western and Asian styled meals and I recommend eating there, especially for breakfast. Overall I was very happy with my stay at the HES and if you are looking for a pleasant stay in Shanghai I certainly recommend giving the HES a try, you will not be disappointed.

Many hotels in Shanghai, this was perfect for me. Single traveller, good location next to Hilton, reasonably priced. Nice room, decent bathroom, bathrobe included. Good buffet breakfast included in price - I miss it already. Front office staff, incl concierge & guest relations, all spoke very good English & were very professional. Would definitely use again.
