On a last minute business trip I had no time to make a reservation. My company contact set me up in this hotel due to others being booked for Expo. Immediately I realized I could not read the name of the hotel - everything was in Chinese and they hardly understood any English. Maybe this hotel would be ok by local standards, but to Western tastes it is very very low scale.
The room was a large suite, but only with the bare necessities of furniture - which was dirty and stained, even trash in the cushions. The windows were caked in mud, wallpaper peeling, funky smell, hard bed and someone's party decorations had been left half-removed from every surface. Even the smoke detector was covered in streamers and ribbon. There were no maps or tourist information offered (most hotels here give a taxi card to help with translation), and not even a fridge in the room. The internet worked, with a fair connection, but forget the phone. It only worked once every 4 tries, at random.
I immediately used the moderate-speed internet connection to chat my husband and have him help me book a room elsewhere, which was not that difficult after all. My last experience here was the "Western Breakfast" (oh and by the way they offer room service but not for breakfast). Chinese breakfast is in a beautiful room with tables and light. Western breakfast is in a dirty room on the other half - all the food is cold and there is no coffee or tea offered, only apple juice. I wasn't even offered a clean napkin, I had to sit in someone else's filthy wake of crumbs and eat my cold boiled peanuts and fried egg.
Horrible experience from my point of view.
