“"Under Maintenance"”

Shanghai Science and Technology Museum
Ranked #76 of 1,334 things to do in Shanghai

The only reason, I did not give this place a 'poor' rating was the robotics section - or to put it more appropriately, the few working displays in the Robotics section, were awesome. The rest all had the irritating "Under maintenance" board hung on them. If you can check and find a day when all the displays under the Robotics section - and to a certain extent the IT section - are working, then I would suggest going to just those one/two areas as its worth the price of the ticket. The rest is largely a waste of time. The entire animals, spiders and reptiles section has models kept there. Who wants to go and see wooden models of animals unless you come from a place where there is no decent zoo?

We went to this Museum on a week day hopping it would not be too full but not so , very full even though its a very large Museum , the wild life display was great , if only the Chinese would make their Museums one way walking . The queues to do any interactive stuff where far too long so the kids soon grew tiered of it some good things but just too hard with all the people . It was school holidays so that must have made it worse

The museum is pretty big, with different exhibits. We went there with our kids (4 and 8) and found it very suitable for their age. Most information panels at the exhibits have English as well, though not as elaborate as the Chinese ones.

The place can be visited very easily via metro. But it was hard for me find the main entrance easily as I had to circle the entire place go get in. There are three levels of this building which itself is very huge and an attraction in itself. There are very nice science experiments in there and people will love them who like these. I specially liked the tilted house and went in the tilted house 3 to 4 times.

I've been there today and I have to say that the building itself looks very impressive and promissing. I also liked the animal part of the museum a lot, even though it is better to go to the Shanghai Zoo if you want to see more than those figures.
Anyway, I was most interested into the Space/Computer/Robots part of the museum and unfortunately I found out that almost every attraction was out of service. Only four robots actually moved. There where three "dancing" ones (all moving in the same way) and one who played a piano. Actually this guy was kinda lame too because I expected it to play like a human with pretty awesome skills. Instead it only played the ABC-song with two fingers began anew when it finished. Seriously every music box sounds much greater than this. It was just emberassing.

Fortunately the price isn't too high, a normal ticket is 60 Yuan, a student ticket like mine 30 Yuan.
