Century park is a nice little Oasis from the hustle and bustle of the city. The only downside is that it cost money to get in. Try and find the little apple orchard and winery if you can. It was a nice surprise.

Most people don't consider Shanghai to be that "green" of a city, but the Century Park and the surrounding areas are very much so. It also helps that most of the area is residential, although our hotel was right on the edge of the park. Fireworks in the park were awesome and we were about as close as it gets.

Admission: 10RMB
Subway: Line 2, Century Park station

This park is well worth a visit. The main features are the large lake and extensive grass areas, although there are many smaller areas with specific themes. (Fruit trees which are beautiful when blossoming in the Spring, exotic species from around the world, a nature reserve etc) It's a big place and you van easily spend a whole day exploring it properly. Bicycles (up to 4 seats) can be hired as well as peddle boats on the main lake and small electric powered boats on the canals. The attractions include a bonsai garden, a large plaza with a musical fountain (although neither this or the giant fountain in the main lake were working when we visited this time), children's fun park, and much more. The main paths are excellently maintained. There is one large cafeteria and an expensive-looking restaurant, but several "grocery stores" selling refreshments are dotted around the park. The staff in these are very friendly and helpful but don't seem to speak much English. As with most public places in China it is very popular at weekends and public holidays, but there's plenty of room to find a quiet corner somewhere. it's a fantastic place to go to relax if you just want a break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

I visited the park on an extremely hot and humid day, so it was probably quieter than normal- which made for a welcome and peaceful break from the noise and bustle of Shanghai.
the park is quite big and clearly marked with different sections, including a bonsai garden and nature reserve. there is plenty of shade and a very pleasant stroll around the main lake takes about 45 minutes. Definitely recommended when the traffic gets too much!
