“Good Hotel”
Reviewed May 5, 2014

Stayed at this hotel as part of a tour of China. Good large rooms comfortably furnished with nice bathrooms. Helpful staff on reception who would go the extra mile. All areas were very clean and well kept. The buffet breakfast was plentiful but cold. The beds as is common in China were very hard, firm mattress doesn't come close. All in all a good hotel but the cold food let's it down.

I stayed here for 2 nights through a Gate1 Travel tour. The location was okay. There was a convenience store right down the street. If you walked a few blocks, you could get to the Jian Temple Metro Station. One early morning, we took the subway 4 stops and made it to the Pearl Oriental TV tower. There is a really nice landscaped park near the hotel with rock caves, a small waterway and grassy areas for the kids. The actual hotel was fine. There is only wifi in the lobby and not a lot of places to sit. The front desk was very slow. We left to explore on our own the morning of our departure, and when we got back around 11:30, we were all locked out of our rooms. Then we had to wait in line for almost 15 minutes just to get our key cards reactivated. The buffet breakfasts were the worst we had in China during our trip. The food was mostly cold. I stuck with toast. My room was fine and generally pretty clean. The view wasn't anything spectacular, but fine for me. I thought it was interesting that they had gas masks and emergency flashlights in the closets.

As the other reviews state, the location is ideal. That is where the advantages stop. Prostitutes great you at the lift, there is no wireless in rooms and the cable connection doesn't work (at least in my room), and press the wrong switch and you'll blow the circuit board leaving you in darkness.

Breakfast is very ordinary, with cold grissle masquerading as bacon, stale breads and overly ripe fruit. You pay an additional 113 RMB for the privilege, if it's not included in the room rate.

Overall, stay here for a few days to experience the beautiful French Concession, but choose another hotel if you are here any longer.

Room Tip: Face south for a better view.

The hotel is not the luxury one but it is a really convenient for us to visit the city we could walk to may places near by. I stayed in the room on the high floor, it is clean and quite comfortable, i liked the view over the area. Breakfast with plenty of foods i tried Chinese food as well but i could not eat many as it was. Staffs could speak English well but not all of them, they are very helpful to call a taxi and draw map for us.

Room Tip: if you stay in China you should hire a Chinese speaking guide

Large hotel in good location. Nice room with comfortable beds .Tea and coffee in room, robes and slippers. Very nice breakfast with both Western and Eastern style food. Plenty of fresh fruit. Helpful staff. Better than expected from a city hotel. No complaints

This hotel was a huge disappointment. The lobby has exactly two chairs which is a problem as the only wifi is in the lobby. Also makes it difficult to wait for someone or socialize. The rooms are small compared to the other places we stayed. The breakfast was very average and the seating inadequate. The worst experience was the massage. We were approached in the lobby for a massage on the 3rd floor. As it was in the hotel, I assumed the quality would be OK. Boy, was I wrong. My friend and I were put in the same room, expected to undress together and the two massage workers chatted loudly the entire time in Chinese. The massage was weird and uncomfortable. The area was very run down with peeling paint on the walls and ceiling. At the end we went to pay. I thought I was in a Chinese gangster movie. A super old lady with hair dyed jet black, rotten teeth and money in a coffee can was who we paid. I feel lucky I wasn't harmed! The only benefit of this hotel is that it borders on the old French Concession, and there were many shops and restaurants within walking distance. There was also a large, beautiful temple within walking distance. Find somewhere else to stay.

Location is a few blocks from the Jian Temple Metro station. You have to cross the pedestrian overpasses. There is also a mall next to the temple and tourist 'friendly' restaurants. The hotel itself is OK. I think it needs more lounge chairs in the lobby area though since it is the only place where they provide free WiFi. Usually, the person in the bar won't let you sit in the chairs unless you order something, but in the morning, our tour guide told him we were waiting for our tour driver, so we were allowed to sit. Rooms are standard, and they supply toothbrushes, combs, slippers and water. I added 1 star for excellence, since they come in the late afternoon to prepare the slippers and towels and robes waiting for you as you come in. Nice touch! Although at first, I thought, our room got invaded! :-)
