“Very interesting private art collection”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

The Long Museum was recommended and I was very impressed. The first level focuses on emerging/contemporary art, the 2nd level revolutionary art (huge collection) and 3rd level traditional art ( calligraphy etc). My only disappointment was some of the more famous pieces were not on display ( as detailed in a book on the museum). When I visited I only saw about 10 other visitors which was surprising given the quality of the collection.

“Excellent Exhibit on Revolutionary Art”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2013

While the scrolls and ceramics are lovely, you can see those anywhere. The modern and revolutionary art exhibits were what really fascinated me. The building itself is beautiful, but as others have mentioned, is a bit out of the way (I happen to live down the road from it!) so that is why I just rated it four stars. If you are visiting Shanghai and have limited time, this one might not make it on your itinerary, but I truly did enjoy it. Visit on the first Monday of each month for free admission all day!

“great Museum, wrong location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

I went to see this museum because I had heard positives about it. I has 3 sections, calligraphy and porcelaine, revolutionary art and modern art. For me the first 2 and esp the revolutionary art section are outstanding. Something you will not see elsewhere. It is a beautiful museum, brand new and very well displayed. It has virtually no visitors, which is in my opinion because of the "middle of nowhere" location in Pudong; 45 minutes by metro + 15 Minutes walk. It is a great museum, must see, but totally wrong location. I heard they will open a Branch in Puxi End of 2013.

“"Must See" New Art Museum in Pudong”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 21, 2013

An expansive new museum holding (part of) the private collection of Wang Wei and Liu Yiqian, this museum is itself an exhibit of the clash of capitalism (super wealthy collectors) in a supposedly communist country. You will especially enjoy the irony of the extensive art on Revolutionary Art. It's a very large museum, with an extensive collection of modern art to imperial artifacts. Because it's out in Pudong, tourists seems to have not yet found this place--I spent the half a day here with no one else in the building other than a few staff. You can easily get here: take the subway to the end of line 7, Huamu Road, then walk east along Huamu Road until you pass under the Inner Ring Elevated Road, and you're there.
