“Good at all levels as a business hotel”
Reviewed August 7, 2014

It's good at all levels, and if you like chinese luxury style as thoes in beijing, u will like here. it's a pity that this plain 'luxury' make normal people like me a little bit... bored. It's not my first time live here but I was still surprised to find even it's with great location (between jing'an temple and shanghai center/plaza 66), the taxi drivers seemed not know it well and i had to explain the entrance of the hotel everytime. also the hotel entrance is not marked with traffic sign, it makes the drivers always miss it and find too difficult to turn back. the room is also great especially i live above 50th floor (it offered a spectacular view, quite different from the bund) but somehow i can still hear the sound noise from the viaduct outside. The service is decent also but anyway since the hotel is connected with a complex estate, i saw weird person some times. The restaurants are ok, but i prefer the breakfast restaurant of pudong shangrila than this one (yes it got a huge dessert display but dessert is only the last part of a meal right?). After all, if it's only for business, i am happy to live there.

Room Tip: I will perfer the room 01-03 and 27-30. face to the east side with spectacular city view.

We stayed here for two nights as the final leg of a Viking Cruise tour. The hotel was truly one of the most amazing I have ever been in.

Start with a large room on the 42nd floor with floor to ceiling windows and a gorgeous view of Shanghai. Every thing controllable from your bed side and that's just the start. Not only were the rooms spacious, with a couch instead of the traditional chair, but then you start to realize that this is one of the most technically advanced hotels in the industry. The bathroom floor was heated, and if that's not enough, so was the towel rack. The shower offered both a direct overhead spray as well as a side spray and was on a marble platform so you don't have to mess with drains. The, there was the television built right into the bathroom mirror. Are you kidding me?

The staff couldn't be more attentive and willing to help. Needless to say, the place is spotless. And, to make things more convenient, it is located adjacent to an indoor mall.

Food and beverages are, of course, not cheap but certainly excellent in quality. Need some western food and beverage? There is an Irish bar within two blocks of the hotel as well as the Jade Buddha Temple for those seeking alternative inspiration.

As far as negatives, there are few. The business center is somewhat limited in computer space (only two) and there is a limited bar / restaurant selections within the hotel itself. Also, ice needs to be ordered from housekeeping but service is prompt. These are minor inconveniences compared to the overall amenities available.

I would go so far to say that, in nearly 60 years of travelling, the Shangri-La West Shanghai was the second best hotel stay I ever encountered.

Room Tip: Check for rooms with upper level views of downtown Shanghai.

Visited this hotel for the last 2 nights of our Viking cruise. Have stayed with shangri la before and love the service from these hotels. We usually stay in the horizon club, but didn't this time, as it was part of the cruise and we were out in tours, so it wasn't worth it. However, it was so nice, that we decided not to go on the museum tour, and stay and enjoy, the pool, relaxation room and jacuzzi! All excellent - loved the relaxation room with the personal TV and headphones.
Stayed on the 56th floor and felt we were sitting on the roof of shanghai! All shops close by, and the golden temple. Would highly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Loved the high floors, fabulous views

This was my first time staying at a Shangri-La property. As a regular global traveler for business and leisure, I have certainly heard of the brand, but never had the opportunity to experience it. I have to say I really enjoyed this hotel, and the primary reason for that was the guest room.

I was in Room 3514 which appeared to be a corner room. What I loved the most was all the windows that practically wrapped around the entire room, including in the bathroom. I loved waking up each morning, opening my eyes and seeing the spectacular Shanghai skyline right from my bed (there were automatic blackout shades available, though). The bed itself was really comfortable with numerous pillows. Lighting was plentiful with a number of options and controllable from several areas. Climate control was in two zones, I think bathroom and bedroom. The TV was large and was easy to use; I mostly watched CNN and BBC. The desk a nice size and location for working and complimentary Wi-Fi worked well without issue. I also liked the additional lounge chair for reading/working in a more comfortable environment. The bathroom was large and luxurious. I liked the natural light, numerous mirrors, and mostly that there was a separate shower and tub, but both contained with a separate room. I think the floors might have been heated, but I’m not 100% sure.

Traveling for work and arriving a bit late, I ordered the hotel car service to pick be up at Hongqio Airport. I was met right outside of baggage with a sign and escorted directly to a Mercedes where I was quickly brought to the hotel (this cost $150). The ride was comfortable and luxurious.

I’d say overall the service at the hotel was good, but it varied. The front door and front desk were fairly good, but at breakfast on the second floor, nobody was to be found. Similarly, I was never told if breakfast was included in my rate, but ate it without being charged (so maybe it was). I heard from a colleague that the gym at the property was huge and beautiful. The hotel is nearby to a number of restaurants and office buildings, and I will definitely stay in the property on my next visit.

Room Tip: Room 3515 was a corner room with lots of windows!

Just came back from a trip to Asia, 4 different hotels in 4 different cities and this Shangri-la was by far the most impressive. It starts with the hospitality of the staff. There are multiple staff in the hotel lobby who greet and help every guest they see. Went to their breakfast buffet every morning and also staff very welcoming and a great variety for breakfast

Great location as the train station just next door so easy to get around from here. Also attached to a mall for shopping and numerous restaurants-so a great place to be.

Their health club was one of the largest and nicest I have been to in a hotel, just impressive facilities. Room very nice, modern, and wonderful bathroom area. Can't find one negative with my visit. Will surely stay here again if I get back to Shanghai

Jean at the lobby was professional and very friendly at all imes. When we went up to the Lounge, one man was holding a tray walking pass us and stop with what he is doing, immediately offer service, think he should be the male butler, wonderful service!
Hotel is beautiful and the service is beyond expectation. Thank you!

Jing An neighborhood is very quiet and clean, stayed at the hotel for 3 days for a business trip, service is pretty good, up to expectation. Almost all the staff can converse in English, really good manner and attitude.

In personal opinion, interior design is average, very business standard. The giant artwork at the entrance is rather out of the place...Guestroom corridor has plush carpet. Stayed in standard guestroom with king-size bed, spacious bathroom, love the bathroom design and finishes.

Jing An Shangri-La is rather new, opened just about a year ago, everything is new in good condition.

Room Tip: Rooms at the corner with better city view
