We went to Mercato based on several recommendations from friends in Shanghai and it did not disappoint. Inspired by Jean Georges ABC Kitchen in New York, which I recently visited as well. The food was quite good and loved the ambiance. The kingfish carpaccio was fresh and simple. Very lofty, urban feeling, with exposed concrete posts, reclaimed wood tables and Edison light fixtures. It feels very New York. Pricing will cost you but well worth it in cosmopolitan Shanghai. We went on a Wed evening and still had to make reservations, and the restaurant was quite bustling even at 930pm when we were seated. Try to ask for a table by the windows if you want a great view of the city skyline and bund.
