“Nice place”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Visit the temple to see the deity of Shanghai city.. In eastern culture, every village and city used to have a deity. Similar to our Indian tradition; Shanghai too has its deity in Yu Yuan garden!

“Must visit the dumpling restaurant”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

What a business, the take away window has people lined up 2 deep and 30-40 meters long every time I have visited this place. Upstairs is not much better, some times I have waited 15 minutes to get a table, but the wait is worth it. Fresh dumplings or all sorts are being made in front of your eyes, cooked and eaten within minutes of completion. If you like seafood try the soup dumplings, they are filled with a seafood broth and arrive piping hot with a straw poking out of the top, beware you do not burn your tongue.
The dumplings are hot but the price will not burn a hole in your pocket.

“Oasis of loveliness”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

This area is loaded with shops and people hawking all kinds of stuff. But once you cross the crooked bridge (to keep out ghosts as they cannot go around corners) there is a peacefulness which is palpable. Each corner provides a new view. You can forget you are in the center of nearly 24 million people. The roof lines, dragons, ponds, furniture, trees, gold fish. We were even treated to a concert of porcelain instruments. And even if it is crowded, there are places to find a quiet moment. Our hotel was nearby and we visited the area more than once.

“Nice but too touristy”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

It's definately really beautiful but I found it very tourist driven with shops and vendors selling things all over the place. We went when it was super busy so I lost motiviation and didn't see as much as I wanted. Will probably try to go back some time.
