We only viewed it from a distance - on land and on the river. By day and by night. It is an astonishing piece of architecture in all lights. And lends a fascination to Shanghai and a magic.

The price of admission was for me worth every yuan! The view from the second "pearl" is just stunning, and the see-through floors are most entertaining. It's also kind of nice not to have the view of the Pearl itself, which, let's face it, is a pretty tacky-looking place.

Best of all, for me, was the municipal museum in the basement. Perhaps this is because (as one previous review dismissively put it) I am a history buff, but I find it hard to believe that it doesn't appeal to others as well. For example, the dollhouse-sized street of Shanghai in the 1930s would surely appeal to lots of kids; and the room full of cars is great for motorheads. More broadly, getting the Chinese government's "take" on the history of the city was for me a real window into a different world.

On the minus side, beware of tacky crummy tat shops and huge Coca Cola adverts.

Very busy place, especially at the entrance... far too many people selling touristy things. The glass see through at the bottom of the 2nd tower is worth the visit. It was amazing looking all that way down.

You go up - look at the view - you go back out. If you stay in Park Hyatt or Grand Hyatt - view is better (at 91/f). There is a museum though at the g/f which history buffs might enjoy.
