Owner description: This Chinese Buddhist Temple hosts two jade Buddha statues imported from Burma, along with many other cultural relics. It is a peaceful refuge from the modern bustle of Shanghai, where monks may be seen and heard conducting Buddhist ceremonies.

“Maybe.. if you have nevee been to a buddhist temple before”
Reviewed May 12, 2013 via mobile

Very basic temple and small.. does not feel authentic at all and there are even no monks, just employees! Only go if you have nothing to do or if you have never been to a Buddhist temple in your life to get a feel of it and the worshiping practices, etc. I have been to many temples before in Thailand which were by far bigger and more impressive so this one did not have any added value to me

“Must See !!!”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

A beautiful place where you can watch the monks in the temples. Very popular with the Chinese who come to pray to the various gods for health, good fortune, children, etc. A prayerful place, peaceful, but busy.

“Fascinating insight”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

This was really interesting and worth the detour on the red bus tour. An official guide showed us around and insisted that his services were free so we learned a lot more about the temple than the guide book information.

“A bit commercial this Buddha”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

First, let's say that the Jade Buddha is impressive. But to see it, you'll have to pay 2 entrance fees. the first one will be 30 RMB for the main entrance. The temple is worth it. Another 10 RMB will lead you to the Jade Buddha. No picture allowed. Be advised that temple sellers are very active and convincing in order to get you to spend money in their stores. As we needed information about the Jade Buddha, we asked a man with a badge written in cantonese (of course). we thaught he was a guide, but he was most probably a seller and brought us directly to his store (however we asked about the Jade Buddha). They said that purchases were for charity. Hope it was true.

“A good overview of Temples”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

Set in the NE of the city this busy temple offers lots to see. There are the many versions of Buddha, not just the jade one, and other deities. There are many pieces of art and carvings plus a tea shop, where you can sample some of the various teas (all free of charge).
