Owner description: This Chinese Buddhist Temple hosts two jade Buddha statues imported from Burma, along with many other cultural relics. It is a peaceful refuge from the modern bustle of Shanghai, where monks may be seen and heard conducting Buddhist ceremonies.

The temple is quite large and has many rooms and corners to explore. Generally its very similar to other like temples but the jade buddah was really quite a sight. Besides that, and even more enjoyable than the sights, my husband and I really enjoyed feeding the koi fish. Strange you might think, but don't miss it! It is pricey to buy a really small amount of food to feed the fish, but I guarantee you won't get the same experience elswhere. The fish literally try to jump into your hands to get food - a must!

This was a beautiful and very active temple that we were lucky to visit. There are several rooms and buildings to discover. Upstairs in two separate rooms in two separate buildings are the two jade Buddhas that make the temple famous. While you can't take photos of the Buddhas, there is a duplicate of one of them downstairs.

Absolutely loved it. Very peaceful and quiet. Very few tourists.. but it's true that there is a lot of beggars all around.. but the temple is very much worth a visit.

A whole bunch of beggars hang around outside the temple. Show a little bit of charity if you want to be followed all the way back to your next destination. Like a lot of tourist destinations in China this has become somewhat of a glorified souvenir shop. Worth going to see some monks and a few cool statues.

This attraction rates as one that you must visit when in Shanghai - especially if your trip to China does not include many visits to buddhist temples or other religious sites (as was our case). Peaceful and interesting place. We had pre-arranged and prepaid for our visit with a private guide as part of a two-day Shanghai visit - so we were actually unaware that in order to see the jade buddha itself, one has to pay an additional fee (as other reviewers have mentioned). Unfortunately, despite having a private tour guide, we rather think we missed quite a bit - mainly because our guide was supposedly English-speaking, but in fact her "English" was incomprehensible so we never understood her explanations, and gave up trying.... Regardless, the Jade Buddha Temple is beautiful and worth the visit.
