Unfortunately came here when I was hungover and didn't really explore much as time was limited
But there were lots of history here and I would have liked to Spent more time
Many years ago they used metal combs and knifes and many other artefacts as currency! There was also lots of tribal masks which were interesting and some voodoo dolls

“Iconic building in an Iconic city”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

A must do experience in Shanghai. The architectural style of the building is a viewing marvel itself. There are many levels each with many rooms displaying periods of Chinese culture and history.. Also they have a visiting exhibition of Congoles art..Impressive. very family friendly. Easyto walk to from Nanjing road East.

“Great Historical Artifacts”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

There is so much to see in this museum. We were getting tired so we only saw the first 2 floors. On the first floor we saw incredible bronzes spanning many dynasties. The 2nd floor housed absolutely beautiful ceramics which I would have loved to take home with me. There were both very small pieces as well as enormous ones, covering many centuries. It is incredible that so many artifacts survived. Too bad that we were too tired to view the rest of the museum.

“Nice museum to beat the heat”
Reviewed June 23, 2013 via mobile

We visited on Sunday afternoon. Contrary to what others wrote, I thought the museum was very nice. The interior was beautiful, and the exhibits were very good. Perhaps others were looking for western art? This is strictly Chinese, other than a special African art exhibit. I didn't find it overly crowded. I enjoyed the furniture exhibit, the costumes, and the sculptures. There was also calligraphy, coins, stamps, jade and pottery. It was extremely hot and humid today, so this was a great place to beat the heat.
