Slightly surreal as its bang in the middle of modern shanghai with the skyscrapers protuding from all angles....

Paid my 30 rmb and had a very nice time. Watch out for the people outside the temple trying to sell punters a fortune reading.....

Visiting temples is an experience, I always do it with respect, the Buda is magnificent, people come to pray, burn incense. It is located in the middle of all this modern buildings, beautiful architecture, well maintained.

Entree fee is 30 RMB (4 €), fir which you get access to all areas plus wooded sticks to lighten and add to the altar. You can see the monks pray and sing. It is allowed to make pictures.

Remember to enter each room with your left leg first and do not step or stand on the concrete elevated doorstep (i did and was asked not to do that :) )

We came across this temple almost by accident as we were on the BIg Bus Tour en route to the Jade Temple. Partly because it was unexpected - so quiet just off a really busy street - and partly because it seemed to be where locals went and prayed, it seemed less commercial than the Jade Temple. It was well maintained and we did enjoy adding our coins to the collection inside the courtyard. We visited early in the day i.e. before 10 am so maybe that is why it was quieter than other places.
