Overall, I can’t really say anything bad about this place. I stayed here for a total of seven nights in two different rooms. It’s a really nice hotel in an excellent and very central location. It is actually a much fancier place than I usually stay in while in China, but it was reasonably priced for the level of quality I received. It’s right in the heart of the city, and very close to most of the things and places you would want to see in Shanghai. The building itself is quite nice, and dates to the 1920’s I believe. The whole hotel has a really cool “old Shanghai” vibe to it that I really enjoyed. Both of the rooms I stayed in were very clean and quite comfortable. My only quip is that the air conditioning didn’t seem to work very well, if at all. Fortunately, the temperatures during my stay were fairly mild, so it didn’t really bother me too much, and I never said anything to the staff about it. Speaking of staff, I don’t know what the other reviews were talking about, as I found the staff to be very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I have no complaints whatsoever when it comes to service. I mean, they weren’t all totally English fluent (although most spoke some), but this place is in CHINA! I certainly wouldn’t have expected them to speak perfect English, and they were all very nice to me. Like I said, overall I was very happy with the place, and I would definitely stay here again. I’d recommend the place for sure.
As I alluded to above, the location is one of the best things about this hotel, but one thing I’d like to mention is that once again, Hotels.com has screwed up when it comes to the map shown on their website. THE LOCATION SHOWN ON THE HOTELS.COM MAP IS NOT ACCUARTE! The hotel’s actual location is several blocks away! I’ve run in to this problem before with Hotels.com’s maps in China, and I really wish they would get their act together when it comes to their maps. It would be REALLY frustrating to arrive and not be able to find the place. The good news is that Google maps has it accurately depicted as “Pacific Hotel” on West Nanjing road. While I’m on that subject, I’d like to say that another GREAT thing about this hotel is how easy it is to find! Just take the metro from the airport (Line 2), and get off at People’s Square. Follow the signs to exit number 8, come up the stairs, and the hotel is right there across the street and slightly to the right! So nice and easy to find after a long trip! Perfect!
