Rainbow Hotel Shanghai

The hotel is fine and the staff helpful and polite. The location suited me with a taxi to a wide selection of restaurants being less than 30 RMB and I never had to wait long for a taxi. The only negative is that, as a Western non-smoker, I very much noticed the smokey atmosphere everywhere. Having stayed in more than 10 different hotels in Shanghai, this was the most smokey I have used.

Not really geared towards foreigners. First 30 channels on TV are Chinese. Explanation on some breakfast products only in Chinese. Faint smell of cigarette smoke in the room. No wifi in room and cumbersome ethernet. Free internet in breakfast hall, though. Bed is very good. Not very modern appearance. All in all, nothing special but it serves its purpose.

I've stayed at this hotel a couple times for business and find it quite nice. The rooms are comfortable and the surrounding area nice for a stroll. Also, it's a short taxi ride to a number of the sights.

It was a nice experience staying at rainbow hotel...it is locates at a reasonable distance from bund area, may be a 20-30 min ...U may chk in the hotel if it close to office .. reasonably priced and the service is good..it has a good spread for breakfast....it has a very big gym with all the facilities. ...the nearest metro would be 10 -15 min of walk..considering the fact that the entire city of shanghai is well connected , travellin gto any location is not a concern..

Regards

OK Chinese run hotel but which aims to cater for Japanese business visitors to this part of Shanghai. They have Sushi in the restaurant and Kareoke in the Club but quality is not really up there with what the Japanese might expect. Rooms pretty small and my colleagues had no aircon all night which was stifling.
There is a bar/Club on 30th floor with singers and a pool table which was fun.
Breakfast very asian with little to keep Westerners satisfied.
probably not one to return to as it wasnt really that cheap at 1000 RMB/night.
Internet not free

This place is an old, worn out dump. The service at check-in was OK, not friendly at all but not discourteous. My room was small and chock full of stains, mildew, cracks and other delights. My bathroom was tiny and the tub was filthy--the mildews stains were remarkable, even for a bad hotel. There was caulk missing around the sink, the sink was rusted, and the lights didn't work properly. The carpet and chairs were stained and the electrical outlets were broken. The bed was as hard as a rock. The room decor was from the 80's and it looks like the owners have spent zero dollars on keeping the property in decent condition. On the plus side, the internet (via CAT5 cable) was fast.

There's a Sheraton down the street and the price is not that much different. I'll stay there next time.
