“Such kind service when I first arrived.”
Reviewed September 2, 2011

On this particular day I arrived to Shanghai for the very first time. I had a traumatic experience because I was not fluent in Mandarin and I had a hard time talking to the taxi driver in Shanghainese. Eventually I was dropped off at this hotel and my struggle ended as soon as I arrived. The entire staff were completely kind and considerate towards my situation especially with the fact that I was an exchange student. Most of the staff are fluent in English and they were VERY generous in answering all my questions and concerns. They did everything in their abilities to help me reserve a DIFFERENT and even cheaper hotel near my dormitory. One particular worker was quite fluent in English and even exchanged information with me. He provided me his cell phone number just in case the taxi driver drove me to the wrong location. The prices are quite good in my opinion with the service and conditions they had. You cannot beat service like that!

Room Tip: It is best to call in first but good things will come if you are a desperate student or converse wit...

The hotel is in a bad need of a renovation; I am sure that it was an excellent property back in the 80's for the different controls and set up that it has., the carpet iin the room and the hallway was stained (it has a very small TV as well) the bed was a little too hard for what I am used to and the both Shampoo and Body wash come out of a dispenser. On the 30th floor they have a Karaoke with overpriced drinks and maybe little more.... as one of my friends got grabbed in the elevator and offered a "sexy party in his room" LOL . The feature a liked the most was the intelligent toilet that will warm up the seat for you (Not even the Ritz has that) overall I am sure that the property conmesurates to the price it was paid (I am guessing around 500 RMB or so)

I stayed here for several days on business. I will stay here again as the hotel gives my company a very reasonable rate. But on the whole, it was disappointing. Good things first. The Gym has a wide selection of very nice equipment. The staff could not have been nicer or responded more quickly to the majority of the issues that came up. The room was nice, clean, and the bed was excellent. The major issue is the the hotel had no air conditioning. I was told the "whole hotel" had none at this time. I do not know if they had failed to activate it for the summer (this is the third week in May), or if there was a breakdown. Doesn't really matter. It gets hot in Shanghai in May. The hotel is an older one, so the bathrooms are a little small..The food in the restaurant is mediocre by Western standards. Few choices at breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

A remarkably good hotel with a very high service standard.
Rooms are very spacey, and in tip top condition. Good bed, good selection of television channels, extremely good service, very good inhouse restaurants.
For executive visitors the 29th floor features a decent complementary "happy hour" between 5PM and 7PM. Selection in the bar is limited but good enough.
The location is the one downside of this hotel.
Subway is not within walking distance, to be honest I didn't even find it, and the selection of places for shopping is limited around the hotel.
One good thing is the Bank of China which is located just around the corner from the hotel. The ATM's here feature english speaking instructions and the staff are usually very helpful. However, the ATM is known to run out of cash in the middle of the night. Alternatively there is another ATM at Galaxy hotel which is just around the corner from the bank...

I stayed at the Rainbow Hotel (also called Hong Qiao Hotel) in Shanghai. The rooms are very nice and the service excellent. The best part is the room rates - at 600 RMBs, this was definitely value for money. As an extra measure, they threw in the breakfast as well. This hotel is right in the middle of the city and fairly close to the domestic Hong Qiao airport and station (which are next to each other). As we were travelling frequently out of Shanghai for day trips, this proved very convenient. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
