“If not for the price, I would have given it one star”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

The last time I visited this hotel was in early 2009 and found it perfectly acceptable. Back then, the rooms were clean and everything just seemed OK. Not great, but okay. Price wise, it was good back then and given its location, which is 10 mins walk from Xintiandi, was perfect for my objectives.

Fast forward to 2013. I visited this hotel again thinking that I was pretty much going to see the same thing. A decent hotel in a convenient location that charges the right price.

Not anymore.

This is what Chinese management can do to do property. I think the property had received no maintenance since my last visit and everything began to fall apart. The rooms look dirty and the bathroom even more so. Towels I was given looked more grey than white and had holes in them. Carpet looked black to me and I was concerned if the sheets were clean.

I asked for a King bed and they gave me more than that. They had 2 standards put together and so it was impossible to sleep in the middle. Wow!

Front desk staff looked unprofessional. What uniform?????

Location stays the same and that deserves one star, as for the price. I will not go back to this hotel unless I am broke.

The rooms are clean and all the sheets and towels are changed every day. The rooms are decent/normal sized. Beds are hard. The rooms are run down though. They're just old and havent been updated. The staff is unfriendly and speak limited english. The internet is dreadfully slow and doesn't work most of the time. but, for the price, this isn't bad just to sleep and rest. The location is great, though.

This hotel is located in Xizang South Road, Huangpu District. If you plan to stay in this hotel, kindly advise to print out the hotel address in Chinese, it help the taxi driver to located this hotel as Xizang South Road is very long. If you take the metro, Laoximen Station is the closest.

Reception:
The staff is poor in English but that is ok, the worst is they are very ignorance and do not have customer service at all, no eyes contact and not helpful, not one of them. One is facing down sleeping nicely. (Please find a proper place to sleep, not at the counter)

Room:
Standard twin sharing with new city view. Simple furnising and is a little old. Air-condition is good but ventilation were poor. TV with local channel and lots free of charge International movie to choose from. Bathroom with bathtub and toiletries provided. Provide only electric kettle. Housekeeping everyday without failed, even you put a No Disturb sign out the door.

Breakfast at 2nd floor, more to local breakfast. porridge and fried noodle every morning and a small corner of bread and butter.

Lobby:
Warm and stuffy, no air-cond and not even a fan. Few computer with internet access for guests to use.

Gym Room:
Like store room.

Place of interest nearby:
Pets Market, Dongtai Antique Street and Huangpu Shopping Street and Xintiandi

If you just need a good night sleep and a shower, this is a ok hotel, dont expect more.

Room Tip: Get a non-smoking floor and request for a higher floor, a credit to view the city.

I think this hotel serves a good purpose. I wouldn't give it 4 stars normally but I think that it's really well priced for an excellent location right next to Laoximen station (line 8 and 10) and old town (fish and bird markets). We paid about $45 AUD per night with two adults which was pretty cheap for shanghai and how convenient it was to everything. This also included breakfast buffet.

Was clean - modern bathroom. Single beds are large but fairly hard. The bed in the double rooms are about king size. Massive. The pillows and blanket are great though. Staff at the front spoke adequate english.

I think it's a reliable cheap stay in Shanghai and by the time you pay for cabs and stuff around in hostels which aren't much cheaper anyway - this is a good option if you're on a budget.
It's very 'good for what it is'. A cheap servicable hotel where you can sleep and keep your stuff and everything seems to work ok.

Room Tip: No spa or pool. But not really needed. Higher floors such as 14 are quiet and have a nice view. Get...

Was ok about 8 years ago, not anymore. Staff does not speak very good English, even if your translator speaks to them in Chinese they pretend to act stupid. Breakfast typical Chinese, coffee drinkable. Hotel has become dingy.

Stayed for two nights with the family we just enjoyed the view of the city from our room .
Other things were just fine and the breakfast was the worst part- if u aren't used to Chinese food-!!It has a good location though and nothing was wrong with the room or toilet maybe we were just lucky,,

Room Tip: try to have rooms on high floors on the side that have the city view..

Stayed here for two nights in late August. Accomodation is certainly cheap - around GBP40.00 a night and the location is a ten minute walk from the Shanghai Museum / Peoples Park. It is also very convenient for the Metro and is about 15 mins away from the Xiantiendi eating / drinking / shopping area. I do not speak Mandarin. The front desk staff do not speak English (okay - that's not fair, maybe forty or fifty words) so you will need to come prepared for that. The rooms themselves are fairly spacious, but typical of Chinese hotels of this class the beds are rock hard and everywhere stinks of stale cigarette smoke and dirty air conditioning. The bathroom had a number of cracked tiles, a shower that barely functioned and a vertical mold garden (black, patchy green) around the bath. However, for the price and location it was okay if you are not looking for comfort or service.
