“Pefect family reunion at this historical hotel”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

It was 14 years since I left shanghai and on my father's 70s birthday, we had a family reunion at this iconic hotel on the Bund. So much of Shanghai has changed but the Peace hotel - with its enduring architectural splendour and nostalgic charm brought back to life after a impeccable restoration. We stayed in an one-bedrom suite on the 7th floor, with partial river view. The room was spacious, elegantly appointed, and the bathroom luxuriously fitted. The private dining area (for Breakfast, afternoon tea and snacks) for Fairmont gold guests was worth every penny - the atmosphere of a modest luxury and comfort, food and services excellent. Speaking of services, I cannot express enough gratitude towards Ms Li, and Frank, who attended our every need. Thank you all.

We heard lots of historical for this hotel. Those the property since 1929 but the lobby was so cozy.

Love the jazz bar the the lobby. But indeed the property is quite old especially the exit staircases like since from the past.

Anyway, we love this hotel and hope can come back here again!

The renovated Peace hotel maintains its historic charm with a renovated luxury. Probably the best location in Shanghai in the corner of the Bund and Nanjing Road, the Peace Hotel offers the excellent Fairmont service in a traditional Shanghai art nouveau building. One of the beest choices in town.

We stayed at the Fairmont Peace Hotel for two nights in early November. The hotel is perfectly situated on the Bund and Nanjing Road, very close to major tourist sites, either walking distance or a short and inexpensive taxi ride (e.g. to Oriental Pearl Tower and Acquarium across the river). Our room did not have a downtown or river view, but we did not miss it: the room was luxuriously appointed and a great way to end a day of sight-seeing. A free-standing soaker tub helped us overcome 13 hours' of jet lag; previous reviews have already described the room amenities so I won't repeat. A highlight for me was the bar on the 9th floor: its outside terrace affords the most spectacular views of the downtown (Pudong area) of Shanghai: it was perfect way to end a day of sightseeing with a glass of wine and the views of the boats making their way down the Huangpu River. The bar is also one of the best places from which to take photographs of the Shanghai skyline towards Pudong. Victor's Cafe in the lobby was convenient for late-night coffee-and-cake (the cake was among the best I've eaten). A 'western' restaurant and Chinese restaurant are on the 8th and 9th floors; a good (but rather expensive) breakfast buffet is on the 9th floor. I recommend getting a package which includes breakfast as this would likely provide better value. Concierge and reception were friendly and helpful. Overall, a perfect stay.

Room Tip: A room without a river/Bund view is more than fine unless you plan on spending 100% of your time in...

This is a fabulous hotel if your into channelling a bit of the early glory days of Shanghai. On the bund, very large rooms with a great walk in robe, his and her bathroom sinks, big clawfoot bath etc. This is a perfect tourist hotel as it is right on the bund and within walking distance to all the must do Shanghai restaurants, Mr and Mrs Bund, M on Bund, M1nt, Jean Georges etc etc etc. Perfectly fine for business travellers also with good size desk and internet reasonably fast. It is a big hotel though, very easy to get lost finding your room, and unfortunately I picked the short straw on the room with only a very small window looking to the interior courtyard (my colleague apparently had more windows than I). There are some amazing hotels in Shanghai so it is hard to stand out, but this hotel does offer something special if you are looking to take in a bit of history of Shanghai.

Excellent location, great room, spacious bathroom, comfortable bed. Our room was quiet even though we were facing the street.
Spa with swimming pool was outstanding, and nice to unwind in the evening.
Excellent breakfast buffet with beautiful view of the river.
Concierge was very helpful and attentive getting us train tickets before we arrived.
Afternoon tea was pricey, but like a small meal, and worth it for seeing the tea pouring acrobatics! Gas masks/respirator mask were found in the closet, but we also found them in our hotel in Bejing - to be used in event of a fire,
Fairmont tip-Enroll in the "President's Club" at no charge online, and you will be able to have free internet, otherwise there might be a charge for use in the room.

Room Tip: Confusing floor layout, seemed quiet everywhere

Loves, loved, loved this hotel. Excellent location, helpful staff and gorgeous rooms. The rooms were spacious, full of ammenities (we enjoyed the expresso machine (complimentary), generous towels and a dressing area with vanity. The bathroom itself is bigger than a New York hotel room. We were 2 adults and a teenager and we never felt crowded. Housekeeping staff was excellent and provided 5 star service.

We enjoyed drinks and tea in the jasmine lounge, a fantastic buffet breakfast overlooking the Bund and watchful security. Spa service will get better with time and a bit more organization.

No question this is the place to stay when you want location, top service and old workd elegance.

Room Tip: Can be a bit confusing- we were on the first floor and it was excellent
