We stayed here for 2 nights in a Fairmont gold room and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We had booked a transfer from the airport through the hotel as we were arriving at 7am. On arrival at the hotel we were whisked up to the 9th floor for check in and served breakfast in the club room while they went through the formalities. As soon as we finished breakfast, we were shown to our room. Considering this was 6 hours before normal check in time we were very impressed to be given a room so early. There wasn't even a hint of, we're doing you a favor by letting you check in now.

The hotel has recently been refurbished and all I can say is, bravo Fairmont. The decor is gloriously art deco and of the highest quality. From the club room, to Cin Cin's to the Cathay and the Jazz Club, you could still be in the 1940's. Being situated on the Bund, it is centrally located to everything and The Cathay restaurant has a beautiful view over the financial district skyline at night.

The rooms are well appointed, as all Fairmont rooms are. We had a large bathroom with two vanities, a separate bath and shower. The room size was quite adequate, and once again, beautifully decorated.

I cannot fault this hotel or this experience.

Our room was modern, spacious and had a big bathroom with bath tub, glass shower, double vanity and a comfortable couch. The view was poor ( faced other rooms and pipes ) and spotty internet access unless you sat by the router. We stayed 4 nights and slept great. The concierge was awesome. They ordered all our train tickets for a small fee. They gave us print outs of our destinations ( restaurants, railway stations, airport ) in Chinese so we could give it to the taxi drivers. The staff spoke good English and helped us immensely to get around Shanghai. They offered way better exchange rates than could be found locally at our banks. We corresponded extensively with concierge before arriving and they were professional and on the ball. The hotel is easy to spot from a distance and conveniently located at the intersection of the Bund and the happening, pedesterian only street on Nanjing East Rd. The Pudong side with its financial buildings is a 3 dollar taxi ride. The pool and facilities was good.

Only stayed one night here (would've loved to stay longer!). The location is excellent and the hotel itself is absolutely stunning, a masterpiece of art deco design, full of history. The staff were superb. I was suffering from motion sickness when I arrived and they quickly sped thru the check in process and brought me up to my room, which they had upgraded to a lovely suite - beautifully decorated. We ordered room service for dinner and it arrived promptly and was delicious. My only disappointment is that we were there just the one night. On my next visit to Shanghai, I will definitely stay longer. Highly recommended!

Recently the Jazz Bar has implemented a RMB 100 ticket price which includes 1 drink. The problem is that the menu of drinks is limited to the cheapest drinks you would find at a downscale bar. The only beer on the menu is Tsingtao and the wines are no name grocery store quality. The mixed drinks are all sweet mixtures like Caiparinha, margerita. I tried to order a Martini but was told I could not have one. This is not the service you would expect in a 5* Hotel.

Lovely public spaces & a very comfortable room but service is mediocre, challenging & certainly not up to Fairmont standards. Staff is friendly but poorly trained. Nothing is easy to accomplish or accomplished correctly the first time. Housekeeping entered our room despite the do not disturb light being on. Concierge services were performed inconsistently & inaccurately (eg train tickets). Club access was not up to par. Food terrible, no attention to guests needing coffee, napkins, utensils etc. The jazz bar is a total joke unless you are a fan of bad wedding bands. If you expect even 4 star service you will be sorely disappointed. If you just want a pretty place to rest you may be happy.
