“Has lost a bit of limelight but still a very good business hotel”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

This used to be one of my favorite places in Shanghai, but recently with the opening of so many new hotels on both sides of the Bund, this hotel has lost a bit of limelight. Even with the renovation, the rooms especially the beds (very soft with little back support) and pillows are not even comparable with the newer hotels. The restaurants are ok but not top notch. Apart from the 54th floor lobby, i would say there is very little that is particularly memorable.

Still it is very conveniently located if you have meetings in Lujiazui / Pudong area, so a very good business hotel overall and is good value for money.

If you are looking of true quality though, Park Hyatt which is just across the road is far better.

This must be one of the best hotels (I've been to) in the world. High quality finishes, gorgeous decor, fantastic food. The giddying view of the atrium from the top and the bottom is vertigo inducing. It's like the inside of a futuristic spaceship. The room was amazing with a full 270 of the river laid way below. Evening dinner was immaculate but to be honest you should just go to the Bund for breakfast.
Last tip - If you are visiting I'd look up the sidecar tour. Vrooom!

Room Tip: View of the river!

It is a different experience to enter a hotel lobby that starts on the 54th level - quite breathtaking views in a stylish and modern setting. The rooms are a generous size for a city hotel and provide plenty of wardrobe space for a longer stay. Although located in the financial district, there was plenty of shopping to suit all budgets within walking distance. The breakfast buffet was perhaps a little less generous than other Hyatt's I have stayed in and the restaurant service levels were not overly reflective of a world class hotel - every morning I noticed that food items had run out and not readily topped up - sometimes taking up to 10 minutes or longer to refill which is not ideal if you are hungry and in a rush. We headed up to Skybar for drinks on our last night - impressive bar but they overcharge on the drinks - assume they build in a premium for the surroundings and it is a Grand Hyatt so guess most people expect it to be expensive. Overall it is a lovely hotel - perhaps if they lifted their game on the breakfast buffet I would happily rate them a full five stars.

Had a one night stay in the hotel, it is in an business part of town so is short of places to walk out to from the hotel unlike staying on the Bund. We did not use the hotel restaurants but there is a good choice
views are great and rooms tremendous

Room Tip: Can only say that ours was great

I have stayed here on 4-5 occassions in the last year. If you want ot be in the Pudong area, it is a very good choice. My current stay has seen a decline in service levels on previous stays, but overall I would say its a good hotel. The restaurants are Ok-good, especially the shanghanese with great food, good view, though a little lacking in any style.. breakfast is Ok, go for the individual food choices as the all up prices are expensive.

We stayed for 3 nights on a city get away. The sightseeing bus tour stops in the front of the hotel. The hotel itself was brilliant. The service was outstanding, the rooms were lovely, the views incredible, the breakfast was excellent, the skybar was an experience... all in all it was first class. Yes it was expensive but in my humble view not extortionate. The hotel is in the financial district of Pudong and amongst the top "brand" stores and malls. The sightseeing bus (not the one branded "Big Red" as this is literally 10x more expensive than the other one just called Shanghai Sightseeing) was the easiest way to get around and to get to the Pu-chi side of the river.

Room Tip: We had a standard room.... without the Pu-Chi view ... it was excellent. At that height, it doesn...

My conclusion is that you can get the satisfaction just as the same as the cost, not exceed.
The reasons are as below,
< good points >
- posh and clean room
- very good breakfast baffet
- fabulous atmosphere
- great architecture and good design
- can arrange a baby cot in advance
< bad points >
- scenery; it's too far from Waitan, because the room is so high. Not so beautiful as you expect. And the glass of the windows are not always clean.
- expensive; everything is expensive
- not so good neighborhood for walking around

It's true that this is one of the fabulous hotels in Shanghai, but I recommend you to stay Wadorf Astria Shanghai on the bund, Les Suites Orient Shanghai on the bund, or Peace Hotel Shanghai, if you pay the same ammount of money.
