“Very convenient hotel in Shanghai, the city of contrasts”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

I visited Shanghai with my husband for business matters and we stayed at Central Shanghai hotel for three nights on the 13th floor. I chose this hotel because of the good travelers’ reviews combined with its good price. Now I can say that it is a really good hotel, well situated exactly as the other travelers has mentioned.
You could buy tickets for the 24 hours city sightseeing bus inside the hotel and pick up this bus just around the corner. There was a very good information computerized desk giving you all the details you needed (for example how much you should pay to a taxi). A taxi was always waiting outside the hotel.
Breakfast was rich and it had various tastes for everyone.
Sauna was included in the price, but the men’s sauna was more complete than the woman’s. Maybe this happened because we wanted to do sauna at the same time and they had to separate us.
Rooms were very well equipped and staff was polite (there was even an iron in the wardrobe, but also the laundry service was a good one). The only negative for us was the very big head pillows.
Communication with Chinese people was very difficult because of their Chinese accent in English and we lost valuable time to understand each other.
Also, although the surrounded hotel district was full of life during the day, at night it was a bit dangerous to circulate alone. All shops closed at 10:00 pm and then you could not find anything else, not even for a drink, but only homeless people sleeping on the benches.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Good value for money.

This hotel has one of the best location in Shanghai, walking distance to the metro, main shopping strips, etc...and the room quality and staff service far exceeds our expectation. certainly extremely good value for the price we paid AUD 127 / night...will definitely stay here again when we return to Shanghai

This is a lovely hotel 50metres walk to the main shopping mall and bargain shopping bazaars. staff friendly, room great and nice restaurants. An enjoyable place to enjoy Shanghai from. No pool or spa to relax in after a hot day out though.

We stayed here at the start of our trip around China and this hotel was by far the best hotel we stayed in on our whole trip. The location was perfect and made exploring central Shanghai in the evenings really easy. The room was lovely, really spacious and well appointed. We will most definatly stay here again and recommend Central Hotel Shanghai to anyone visiting Shanghai.

Our group of ten stayed in five rooms in this hotel. All of us enjoyed our stay and the rooms exceeded our expectations. The rooms were large and bright. They were newly remodeled and provided wonderful and useful amenities you could think of; comb, toothbrush, slippers, bathrobe, complimentary bottle of water, hot water pot, etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. As mentioned in many of the review, the location is excellent. We stayed on 12th floor and couldn't hear any traffic noise. Overall, the hotel provided great value. We had debated to pick between this hotel and Howard Johnson next door and we were glad we chosed this hotel. We loved the room and definitely recommend this hotel. Also worth to mention is the breakfast. It is 113rmb, but I love the selections with freshly made chinese donuts.

Room Tip: Our group had rooms on 12th and 19th floors. All rooms we had were great and quiet.

Over the road from Nanjing Road which is a plaza (although some bikes are allowed) made this a safe walk down to the Bund. One could easily get side tracked though with the fabulous shops on the way. The hotel had an extremely impressive foyer with all the lighting through out the hotel led after the recent renovations. Staff were particularly helpful. Our room was large with an enormous bathroom., and very comfortable we were high enough to get a view, Lucky I guess. I would definetly choose this hotel again next time we are in Shanghai. The only surprise was the cost of the massuer compared to every where else dearer than an Australian Hotel and much dearer than Hong Kong or out of the hotel.

This is a hotel which is a bit older, but in a great location. The room that I was in was just redone, so the room was great. There were a few issues, as the window would not close. The management quickly came up and repaired the hinge and had no issues. The down side for this hotel is because of it's downtown location, bring earplugs, and ask for a room higher up farther away from the main street. The breakfast was quite expensive for what they had, and since your in the old section of Shanghai, you have many different food options which are a few minutes by foot. Also another great part of this hotel is it's proximity to the subway. Also the subway is very easy to manage, as now the stations have machines which are also in English, and the touch screen options make it very user friendly.
I was only there for two nights, but because of the location it's a great place. True it's not on the new side of Shanghai, however it's right along the main walking area, with all the shops and many things to see. Room itself was a good sized room, and was very clean.

Room Tip: Try to find a room higher up, or farther away from the street noise.
