I enjoyed my one night stay, thanks mainly to the excellent service at the hotel. The concierge was most thoughtful and always available to help. I was given an early check-in without any problems.
The location is good, especially for business and shopping purposes - perhaps I will stay closer to the Bund for more leisure activities.
The rooms are good - spacious and catering to most traveler needs. I tried the California restaurant at the hotel, which offered decent choices which were not prohibitively expensive. It is a good business hotel.

Arrived day late due to airlines late connecting flight and lost luggage!, so stayed first night somewhere in the countryside in Instanbul!

We were a family group of six and after a long long journey the East Asia was a wonderful oasis for the first leg of our China adventure.

Beautiful Regal rooms - with even a mattress and pillow " menu" one could choose and they would change!. and a daily weather forecast. It would be a long list to mention all the other nice "things".

Breakfast very good. Great choice, western and chinese. My grandsons were in heaven, with noodles for breakfast. Service excellent.

As we spent most of our five days at the Regal out sightseeing we did not avail of their many facilities, pool gym etc..

Taxis are inexpensive, but we used the metro as much as possible to enjoy the local culture. There is a stop very near the hotel and trains are frequent and easy to follow.

Can recommend "Hengshan Cafe". Turn left out hotel door and approx. 200m on left. open 10.30am to 3.30.am if you are hungry on your way back to hotel.

My top 4 attractions out of a long list "must see" while in Shanghi.

(1) "The Bottle Opener" - Shanghi Financial Center. At a height of 492m stand on the glass floor and look down!

(2) Suzhou and Shanghi River Cruise. At night, amazing light show from skyscrapers . Great athmosphere and a banquet, if you can drag yourself away from the passing sights.

(3)ERA-Intersection of Time. Acrobatic Extravaganza Chinese theatre. Amazing.

(4) Nanjing Road - For me too Western. Try Yuyan Market Shanghi Old Street Huahi Road. Old Chinese Buildings, and all sorts of goods-- Good and Bad!.

Arrived at the airport after an early morning arrival, and my driver was there at the airport awaiting.

Very professional warm welcome at the hotel and Coco made sure everything was to my satisfaction.

Each time I visit this hotel I see nice improvements - like the new summer curtains on the 9th floor, or the excellent concierge service.

If you want a peaceful stay in Shanghai with excellent service, this is the place to be!

Comfortable typical 5* Asian city hotel, but very liitle atmosphere. Useful for business locations but not so much fun for downtime as the hotels nearer the Bund area. If given a choice I would prefer a branded hotel such as a ShangriLa for the same price. But no problem getting early rooms after an early morning arrival. The surrounding area is more bar food than culinary but found a superb Japanese “pub food” restaurant nearby.

The hotel is located in a very convenient location. Near shopping and eating areas. Buffet has variety but after a while becomes monotonous. Be sure to check out nearby restaurants. The rooms are modern, spacious and clean. Overall, a great hotel.

Have stayed at this coveniently located (financial centre 20 mins, metro, shopping, quality of life) hotel since 2005 many times. Rather than concentrate on all the many positives, areas for improvement:

i) Inconsistencies with the content of food is a little disappointing - the "chefs salad" ( a very healthy meal when done properly) varies considerably between morning shift and evening shift. For example, in the evening I received a plate which was primarily chicken fat rather than lean chicken.

ii) Although staff service is excellent, the restaurant area can seem a bit intimidating as it is too large; the hotel should consider temporarily screening in less busy times.

iii) Although the concierge service is excellent, umbrellas are needed at the front door for guests when going shopping etc - it is too much bother going back to your room to get the one made available.

Addiitonal points to note:
- Hotel needs more positive marketing to increase occupancy (sometimes in the evening it needs livening up). The Chinese saff just don't seem to understand this concept as I've mentioned it to them many times.

- Hotel rates need reviewing: often booking through CTRIP is cheaper; there are competitive alternative hotels; there needs to be more flexibility (and response) when contacting the hotel directly.

The 'jewel in the crown' is the hotel's AZURE BAR - excellent drinks and service, and the staff will always try and accommodate your food needs satisfactorily and you can easily have your food at the bar.

Room Tip: As is the case nowadays with both business and personal travel, negotiate - but in a quiet manner.
