My family recently visited Shanghai and stayed at the Westin Bund Center. The location was ideal as we were within walking distance of great shopping, the River walk, a lovely park and views of the architectural skyline of Shanghai. Our rooms had good views, were really suites and very spacious. Everything was upscale. There are several restaurants in the hotel and a place where one could grab a good breakfast to go. The Italian restaurant was good and friendly to families with children. The hotel has the most comfortable beds I have tried anywhere!
The lobby is large and had lovely flowers all around. There was a wide open lounge area and bar that were very comfortable. One evening when my husband and I were there for a drink, we were treated to a trio who played and sang very well. One complaint about this bar was the service. The first evening we went there, my husband and I ordered different drinks. His came almost immediately. I had to wait at least ten or more minutes for mine. We also had a hard time getting the check.
The staff was always helpful and friendly and many spoke English. There was one problem we had with the outside staff however when we needed two taxis to go out. My daughter had asked to go to the French Concession, a very popular area, and requested two taxis. At first the woman seemed confused and said she did not know where that was. Then she put part of the group in a cab and sent us off. The final two family members got another cab shortly after and arrived within a couple of minutes of us. The problem was that we were no where near the French Concession!
We had no idea where we were, but stuck together, found a restaurant for dinner and then eventually found cabs to return to the hotel. We were disappointed not to go to the French Concession because we wanted to have dinner there and see the highly rated shopping. By the time we returned to the hotel, our grandchildren were wiped out and we were all too tired to complain.
