My wife and I stayed for a 2nd time at this property Jan 10-14, 2014 and we couldn't have been happier with our experience, something I have rarely stated in 35 years of traveling the world.
The GM, Andreas Trauttsmandorff, and every member of his staff, in every way delivered 5 star service in this 5 star hotel, which is not common in mainland China where there are now many physically impressive 5 star properties but very few which deliver a true 5 star experience through both the physical infrastructure and the service.
Our grand studio suite in the Grand Tower was terrific....spacious, well appointed, had a great king bed, beautiful large bathroom, lovely view, very clean, very good wireless Internet connectivity, etc....great choice.
The Executive Club on the 5th floor of the hotel is wonderful from it's spaciousness, service, quality, amount and variety of food/drink to its view of the Pearl Tower across the Huangpu River. We enjoyed it for breakfast one morning, afternoon meetings and each evening between 5:30 - 7:30 for complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres, which could and did for seemingly many serve as a very good dinner.
The buffet breakfast at the Stage Restaurant, which is on the first floor and opens to the hotel's very large atrium, is among the best we have ever experienced in a hotel....huge selection of excellent food to satisfy eastern and western tastes on the hotel's first floor and a very attentive, yet non-intrusive staff.
While we were there, renovations of the pool and gym were being finished, so they will now be better than ever, which says a lot since from our experience using them during our previous stay at the hotel, we already thought they were great and better than most 5 star properties.
Once again, we appreciated the excellent location of the hotel...very short walk to the Bund, Nanjing Pedestrian Mall, the Yuyuan Metro Station, etc. and taxis are easily obtained on your own or with the assistance of the hotel doormen.
Very happy to once again recommend this property that offers great value in the 5 star category for business/pleasure visits to Shanghai.
