The Okura is a nice hotel which features very nice rooms and a good location close to an MRT station. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. The hotel allows smoking in all its bars and restaurants. Although there are dedicated tables for non smokers, those sections are not really separated so the moment you leave your room it's like walking through a gigantic ashtray.
A terrible experience, and a pity for an otherwise very nice hotel. Until they change their smoking piolicy though, I would not come back here even if it were free of charge.

Room Tip: I had the junior suite which was really comfy.

I stayed here for a week for both business and holiday. Staff is very helpful and friendly but sometimes you need some extra time to fully explain your wishes or orders. Rooms at the executive level (floors 26 and up) are spacious and have all the conveniences required. The swimming pool is exceptionally large and the Japanese sauna is excellent. Other services as bar and restaurant are far too expensive. That made it very easy to go for some local cuisine with a local touch.
The checkout the evening before was not handled very efficiently as there was a misunderstanding about some costs. This turned out into a little fight about who was right and who wasn't. In the end I gave up and agreed to pay the cost to end this silly discussion. The assisting lady insisted in getting more information from housekeeping and said she would inform me later. Upon arrival in the hotel later that night she came hurrying from her desk and clarified that she was indeed right that I had to pay the specific cost... I thanked her for this very helpful information and I couldn't help but wonder why she would do this. Was this a way to get even or just plain stupidity?

This is a big hotel in shanghai, pretty good standard of rooms and the staff are switched on. I had a quick stay arrived midnight and left at 6 am... But the am arrangements went fine.

No breakfast however s, the blast didn't start until 6 ( when I had to leave) and no room service either???

Anyway rooms were good , clean, quiet..

Could get anything on the tv as the nest ructions weren't in English and no wifi in room - or I couldn't connect whatever....

I'd say overall average.t

Room Tip: Air con seemed always on....and it's a bit noisy. Try and get this sorted before you get into t...

Very much a Japanese feel to this hotel - just a single feeble pillow but rooms generally well appointed and a decent breakfast. It's about time business hotels like this has wifi throughout given the number of business travellers who use iPads. Free wifi in the lobby but not practical for long periods

This is a great hotel. The location is a little far from the Bund, Nanjing road, and Xintiandi, but is still right in the middle Shanghai and within walking distance of plenty of restaurants, stores. A Shanghai underground station is less than a block away.

The service was excellent, especially the car/taxi service; the staff took time to find a driver who spoke some English so that his basic English and my basic Mandarin could combine to get me where I was going on time.

As a Japanese hotel chain, Okura hotels do of course have small rooms. Overall, though, it's a great hotel. I definitely recommend it.
