Use this hotel as my base in China. Stayed 7 nights this time. Excellent service and feels like home. Rooms always nice and well kept with good a/c. Concierge lounge excellent for meetings and discussion. I will be back. Very good fitness and internet wireless.

The Renaissance Shanghai Pudong is not a very recent one so do not expect to find latest trendy architectural solutions in your room but as per standard Marriott you will find an excellent level of care in all details. The rooms are clean and more than confortable with a huge selection of pillows. So far you will not miss anything you need to have. The internal restaurants are very good.

My husband was assigned to Shanghai for a month in May and then again in September 2010. I went along with him both times and stayed at this hotel both times. We could not have picked a better location. We were within walking distance of two subway stations (#2 & #9). Since we had no car, we used public transportation.

Pudong is the business district of Shanghai. Our hotel was a few minutes away from the Pudong International airport via the fast Maglev (Magnetic levitation train). Subway fare in Shanghai was dirt cheap.

The staff spoke English very well. There were volunteer college students then assigned at the lobby who helped guests navigate the city and the World Expo that went on until October 2010. The director of Government Affairs, Mr. Licoln XU , checked what I needed daily and assigned a student to help me. On my second day there, one student actually walked to the subway station with me, helped me get my subway pass and got on the train with me to my next stop.

The general manager, Silvio, made rounds daily and listened to guests' suggestons and comments. The manager of Beds and Accommodation, Mr. Tyson Bae, was always around to help in trouble shooting, etc. The staff at the Club House, mostly interns , were very efficent and friendly. I learned a word or two of Mandarin each day.

Breakfast was free for Gold Marriott members. It was excellent. They had both American and Chinese breakfast. They had American coffee including cappuccino. Omelets were made to order. They had an assortment of pastries, cheeses and appetizers along with the main courses. Fresh fruit was available each day. They had another restaurant on the second floor that served authentic Chinese food as well as American food.

The rooms were big and the beds were comfortable. We had 6 down pillows. The Internet connection was free for us. We did not need any converters or adaptors as they had both 110 and 220 volts with several outlets.

Our room had a big flat screen TV and a small refrigerator. Each room had a flat iron, ironing board, umbrella and shoe shine supplies. We got free English language newspaper each morning.

The lobby was big and well decorated. There is a pianist twice a week, Fresh flower arrangements dominate the main entrance. Tehre is a nice gift shop int he first floor.

We did not use the pool or the gym but our friends said that they were nice and clean with good equipments.

Several airlines housed their crew there.

The location was excellent. Across the street was a pub, produce market, beautfy salon, convenient store, dry cleaner and alteration shop. Within a few minutes walk are numerous restaurants, a big mall, post office, coofee shops, and banks.

We were surrounded by high rise buildings. There were no shabby looking buildings around.

It was safe as there was always someone by the door and the lobby who would get a cab or open the door for you. we walked around evening late atnight and we felt safe.

It was the friendliest hotel I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: I always get a room away from the elevators. The staff was genuinely nice and friendly.

I had gone to Shanghai for a Buisness trip to Shanghai and stayed at this property for the very first time. I have stayed at the RAdisson & Intercontinental (both in Pudong) earlier.
This hotel is conveniently located in Pudong. It is a 5 min taxi drive from SNIEC, Central Avenue, and most of the place of interest in Oudong. It takes about 20-30 mins to go to the Bund, Xin Tian Di, and other places of interest in Puxi. This property is about a 7-10 minute walk from Thumb Plaza/Square which is a very niuce place to hang around in. It has many different restaurants, pubs, Carrefour, Shopping, etc.
Speaking about the property, it is very well maintained, the staff is helpful & very well aware of the places one should go to. The hotel has a couple of good restaurants.
The room however is comparatively smaller to some of the other properties that I have stayed in Shanghai. I had upgraded myself to the Club room. I was disappointed with the Club floor. The alcohol & the food is so-so. I wouldn't advise anyone to upgrade themselves to the Club room.
It was overall a decent place to stay in nothing out of the ordinary.

I go regularly to Shangai and I have stayed many times at Pudong because it affords a good value at a reasonable price. It is not centrally located, but for the rest the rooms are really spacious, common space is ample and very well kept, there is a good choice of restaurants and wireless works very well. They could upgrade some of their room furniture and equipment at the gym, but in general it is good value for your money.

Hotel is located in area that has been rapidly developing for the last few years. Its about 40 min taxi ride from Pudong airport, (and about 45 min from downtown Shanghai).
The hotel is well equipped for Western visitors. All the staff speak good English, and all signs / menus etc are written in English. All the staff were friendly & very helpful.
Somehow, I managed to get upgraded to "Club" level, which included free Internet (which worked perfectly) and access to the "Club Lounge". This provided a reasonable buffet breakfast, and free drinks/snacks in the early evening. So it was a very good value stay !!
There are a good number of shops & restaurants within easy walking distance, and because there are a few other "Western" hotels in the vicinity, its quite easy to find a place with a menu in English (or at least some pictures to point at !!). One suggestion is to carry cash (easily available from ATM machines outside most banks). Some restaurants say they accept credit cards. When you try to pay, it turns out they only accept credit cards from Chinese banks.

Was at this place for a business trip and workshop. The hotel is fine, the bathroom especially was nicely designed, and the meetings rooms were okay as well. However, if you are in any way interested in seeing something of Shanghai, then don't stay here. It takes a long time to get to the city center, which is a real shame
