“High in the Sky”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

This is a very nice hotel. The lobby is on about the 38th floor as I recall and the guest rooms are above, with the Executive Lounge up on the 59th floor. The views from the Exec lounge, which has free drinks and goodies in the evening and breakfast in the morning, are spectacular, but unfortunately during the day the view is dominated by pollution. There is a fantastic gym and pool facility down on the 6th floor, an adequate business center with professional staff, and a nice spa where they have nice, legitimate massage services.
The location is good if you have business in Central Shanghai, and it is a relatively short walk to the Bund. If you have business out in Pudong, it would be best to stay in Pudong, as traffic can really increase commute times around the city.

Room Tip: A view of the large buildings opposite the Bund is always nice to have.

This hotel is very well located for the main attractions in Shanghai (The Bund, Shanghai Museum, The French Concession, etc.) and the service is excellent -- especially the ladies in the executive lounge are outstanding. Great views from lobby bar and executive lounge. I have stayed at better rooms at JW Marriott hotels but still recommendable.

I stayed twice in this Hotel and both times I had an excellent experience, rooms , restroom, bed, sheets...etc are very clean. The room service and staff are excellent. Location is great and in both times the view was spectacular. Oh ! forgot to mention that a Starbucks is on the Ground level!

The marriott is a very nice American hotel - a little piece of America in china. Comfortable and nicely appointed, but a little bland. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that. The staff are helpful. The location is good, and the hotel's situation at the top of tomorrow square building is spectacular. The lobby bar is a nice place for a drink or a tea, and appears popular with locals. Good wifi.

This hotel is in the center of Shanghai. It has its lobby on the 38th floor, and guest rooms run all the way to 57 or 59. It is in a distinctive building, which is easy to spot from a distance. Shanghai is a city of tall and distinctive architecture but it is cool that the Marriott is one of those buidlings. I am a platinum Marriott member, and so presumably get some of the best treatment. But, it is a step above many Marriotts in any case. The concierge lounge has a spectacular view. The breakfast in the lounge is incredible, with European, American, and Asian hot and cold items. Tea time snacks are lame, and happy hour is quite good, one could easily just eat in the lounge and skip dinner. The gym is convenient and the equipment is well maintained. There is nothing left to desire that this JW does not provide. I wish at times the staff in the lounge did not "hover" as they do (there are a lot of them and they almost get in the way) but this is a nit and may just be personal. I have visited often and will return, this is the nicest Marriott in Shanghai (I have stayed in four).

Room Tip: Even low is high given the lobby on the 38th floor. Have not been in a bad room though I do like the...

As has been mentioned by other reviewers, this hotel is exceptional in almost every respect. The Executive Lounge is the best I've ever been in and I have over 1200 Marriott stays. The quality of the food, wine and service is superlative.

Special thanks to Silvio Rosenberger, the General Manager, for his shopping hints and for opening the 60th-floor roof deck for us. Also to Sep GAO, the Chief Concierge, and his staff for providing car service to the Bund and Xintiandi.

A great stay!
