I stayed here for 3 nights in September while on a biz visit. Since the regular rooms were full, i was put up in the service apartments which was not a bad thing at all. The service apartment was incredibly big, fully furnished and with a fantastic view of the city. Luxury is the word

The location was ideal for me as my office was just aross the road. The bund is only about 15 to 20 mins by walk from the hotel and quite a few nice hangouts nearby. The Barbarossa bar was a good one..

I checked out the 60th floor library, but was a lil dissapointed as i was expecting a panoramic view of the city but i found it was walled in. Maybe i missed asking someone as i read a review here which says there is indeed a view. The food was great, be it breakfast or at any of the restaurants in the place , the service level never bad..

But yeah be careful about taking a taxi early mornin to the airport from right outside the hotel I got ripped off payin some 300 RMB.

This hotel is an oasis of calm above the franticness of Shanghai.
Rooms are a bit dark and depressing but fine.
Pool is great, if you can be bothered with the trek.
Breakfast is amazing.
Service fantastic.
Oolong Ginseng tea in the lobby is a treat.
Massage a bit weak
View from the balcony at the highest library in the world is totally and utterly breathtaking if they let you have a look.

Room Tip: they're all okay...higher the better

Top notch views of the city in a great location. I recently stayed one night in a suite for a business layover between a work trip to Suzhou. The amenities were top notch and the area was very central with no attraction greater than a $3.00 cab
fare. The room was very large with windows across one whole view on the 41st floor looking over the skyline. In room toiletries were better than average and the staff was very helpful. Great pool and work out facility but the restaurant was a bit on the expensive side. I paid the equivalent of $33 US dollars for the brunch that while tasty was more than I required. Overall god experience and I would stay here again when visiting Shanghai.

Room Tip: Great business travel location and central to all parts of the city

STayed for three nights while on business in Shanghai. Location is superb, service was excellent and the rooms and bathrooms are an absolute treat. But (and its a big but) you pay for this - room rates are expensive and so is internet (mine was free since I am a Marriott member). Breakfast buffet is excellent but it is not included in the room rate and was very costly. Furthermore I dont need a huge buffet every day. Highly recommend that the hotel offer breakfast alternatives to the buffet for business travellers.

Room Tip: I was upgraded to a corner room - amazing views. The hotel starts at the 38th floor so the views ove...

Most Marriotts are top shelve great places, they tend to embrace the local favor of the location and make for comfortable lodging. The JW marker goes above and beyond that, and here in Shanghai they prove it again.

The place from the 38th floor lobby to the 59 floor executive floor has views of People's Park and when the sky is clean you can the whole city right to the river. Staff are outstanding and go the extra mile you look for.

If you are looking for a central location, with exceptional service and a clean safe place her in Shanghai, the JW Marriott has it all

For my first vist to China this has made it all that much nicer.

Room Tip: Ask from a river view

Okay, a trip to the mideast may be even more exotic than a trip to China which my wife and I took in October 2000 (NOT 2012, sorry to be so late) for 3 weeks. We stayed at this Marriott for one or two nights -- quiet and comfortable. Shangai is the best place we visited and the list included Guilin, Suzhou, Xian, Beijing and Hong Kong. The view from Shangai of Pudong across the river is fantastic. I wish we'd had a year to check out this vast and fascination country. Trying to learn Mandarin from English is something of a chore; the classes I took in the U.S.A. included a few Cantonese speakers. Sort of like New Englanders not able to understand folks from Dogpatch. Find a group and go to China.

Room Tip: All the rooms here seemed quiet and comfortable.

This is such a great hotel in a very convinient location. There is a subway station nearby and you can walk to many of the city attractions. There is also a hop-on hop-off bus that stops a few steps away from the hotel, which I highly recommend (it is really cheap and a very easy way to overview the city). The room is very confortable and nice, but the big deal about this hotel is the view from the room. I've stayed on the 48th floor (the lobby is on the 38th, which you reach by an express elevator in the first floor). The view is incredible! When I got to the Hotel, they offered me an upgrade to a corner room with breakfast included and snacks served at the executive floor during the day. Well, as everything turned out to be so cheap in China, I took it right away. How can I explain it? I could see from my bed most of the highlights of Shanghai. The problem was that it was kind of hard to leave the room or the executive floor where they serve wine, champaigne and many kinds of little sandwiches and deserts (included in the upgrade). Breakfast is a delicious and abundant feast. Service is good. English spoken is ok.
