Stayed at JW Marriott Shanghai and it is such a beautiful hotel. They are very accomodating and helpful to western visitors. The executive lounge and views are fantastic. Breakfast in the main restaurant a wide variety. The room was comfortable with excellent views of the city. Nice to walk tomorrow square when off of work.

A modern, vertical hotel centrally located in urban Shanghai's Puxi, a few minutes' walk from the busy People's Square subway station (exit 11, as I vaguely remember) and a wide range of popular local restaurants including the well-known Kung Tak Lam vegetarian restaurant (on the Food Street nearby).

Above the subway train platforms (and under People's Square) is an underground mall of small local shops. The hotel is at one end of the shopping mall, and the East Nanjing Road pedestrian street (leading towards the Bund) at the other end.

During our stay there, the hotel was kind of quiet. All the hotel and restaurant staff acted their professional best to provide pleasant and efficient service.

The manager of the Cafe was particularly energetic, taking the initiative to talk to almost every table of guests coming in for late breakfast, and apparently directing specific junior waiters to take good care of specific tables. Breakfast was in a full buffet style, and offered such a huge spread of choices that it was more like brunch. For a non-breakfast person like myself, the array of dishes on the buffet tables was a nice, colourful sight to start the day with.

The Man Ho Chinese restaurant is a very good base to sample Shanghaiese food, much better than the Dragon Phoenix restaurant at the Peace Hotel, which used to be one of our favourites.

The hotel as a whole has this new, sleek look that is common to many of the vertical hotels that sprang up in Shanghai in the last few years. It's difficult to find fault with anything in the room, other than perhaps the common problem of water not exactly staying within the shower cubicle.

Probably because of the competition in Shanghai, it's not easy to identify what might make the hotel stand out from the others. But then it did re-assured us of the quality of the Marriott brand.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the People's Square have a more open view.

There is no question that the staff--from managers to wait staff, give 100% . They are attentive, resourceful and very accommodating.
The physical space is luxurious and immaculate. The buffets at the Cafe are superior to most buffets we've ever had.
The only minor issue is the Spa which is very expensive for it's China location. If you book a package that includes spa certificates, make sure you know exactly what you are entitled to before booking. In my case, even though there was a misunderstanding, the guest manager intervened on my behalf and I received a refund. The Spa is independently owned and aside from the prices, it is beautiful and the services are top-notch.
A wonderful respite from the exhaustion of navigating China!

Compared to the rest of the world you can get a room at the JW Marriot for a very reasonable price (I paid £120) however once inside you will pay international 5 star rates e.g. £10 for a beer in the mini bar.

The hotel is perfectly located within walking distance of east Nanjing Road and the shopping malls as well as the various museums.  The hotel itself starts from the 38th floor so the lobby bar and room offer amazing views of the city especially at night where every single structure seems to have neon lights attached.

I needed a meeting room and whilst expensive at £700 per day and £200 for a video screen the facilities were good and our company name featured on various digital screens around the hotel so that our guests could find us easily.

Tip: Do not use the hotel taxi.  Use the taxi rank outside the hotel.  Taxi's are extremely inexpensive in Shanghai but the hotel charges 8 x the normal taxi rate.

Tip: A sight seeing walk along the Bund is essential

This hotel could not be better located. It is 20 minute of very pleasant walk to The Bund, along one off the most animated street in town, Nanjing Road. If you walk toward the opposite direction, along Nanjing West, you will hit another shopping area, where malls and high end boutiques line up along both sides of the street, for several miles. About 2 blocks away from the hotel, towards Nanjing West, you should look for a relatively smaller mall, in an older building, where bargains are waiting for tourists. The hotel also has awesome views of the river, The Bund, and some of the most animated streets of the city. It is also one block away from subway stations and main tour bus stations.
The hotel is clean and modern, and has excellent decor. The staff is friendly and always acts courteous, although their English is not great. Our room has great view of The Bund and the river, and is large enough for 3 guests. The reception desk is on the 38th floor but the concierge and the bell boys are on the 1st floor. The staff at the reception desk is worth mentioning, for their excellent service. We asked for a (really) late check out (at 4 pm) and was granted promptly. There is also complimentary wired Internet and wi-fi as well. We strongly recommend this hotel and we will certainly come back to stay on our next visit to Shanghai.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of The Bund and the river, if possible.

You really couldn´t ask for a better location, specially if you are planning to devote some time walking around in Shanghai or shopping.

Besides, the views from the rooms are great and service was very good.

The executive lounge is located in the top floor and the views are excellent, they have library in top of the executive lounge claiming to be the highest library in the word. I don´t know if it is true but they have a really nice collection of Chinese books and although I couldn´t read them they look really nice

One night we went to the JW Lounge (you can smoke cigars in there) and we had a great time, however we had an incident with the waitress, which I reported to the checkout clerk next morning, by the time I was approaching the Airport, I received a mail from the manager apologizing and promising to better train her for my next visit.

I really enjoyed the place, highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a floor as high as you can.

This hotel has impeccable service coupled by great views of the city and located near great shopping and Bund. The food was outstanding and concierge was also helpful in securing high speed train tickets and air travel delivered to our door. I will stay here again when in Shanghai.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room on a higher floor to enjoy the view.
