“2 nights jw marriott shanghai”
Reviewed November 25, 2011

stayed there for 2 nights Nov 2011. used marriott reward points. am a platinum member so got a room with 2 doubles on the concierge level (I think it was 53rd floor). which gave us access to lounge on (59th?) floor for full breakfast, all day drinks and afternoon snacks. Hotel was very nice. did not use pool, gym or other facilities. Room was very comfortable however seems that this hotel is not one of the newest and most updated in Shanghai, so I would consider other hotels if I was looking for a 4-5 star hotel and had to pay. Location was excellent for dining, shopping, sightseeing, very near subway stop. Overall had a great stay.

Hotel is located on the upper floors of a very striking skyscaper. Lobby level is the 38th floor so there is a constant feeling of being in the clouds. Staff are friendly and efficient and keen to assist you. Rooms are typical Marriott with the stand out being the full windows in the bathrooms. Showers are also separate from the bath which is also appreciated.

Meeting rooms are located on the 5th floor and this means either a long way for the 2 lifts that serve both the bedrooms and the meeting rooms or taking a lift to the lobby and then transferring. Both are unnessarily time consuming with the longest wait being 6 minutes.

Catering in the hotel is to a high standard with an excellent breakfast buffet. Conference catering was also good with lots of interesting choices for the coffee breaks. Room service is somewhat limited in choice for such a big hotel and breakfast starts from 6am which is a bit later than one would like considering the time difference with Europe and jet lag.

Would certainly return again though.

Wonderful hotel and worth every single one of it's five stars.
Located next to peoples park it is the perfect location with great views and wonderful food.
Also try Barbarossa down in the park. This is what a hotel should be like. Price wise it can further be quiet a bargain if you do not hit a big fair or convention at the same time.

Great functional hotel. Helpful staff. Location not far form the internal airport so not bad, but far from the international airport. Several restaurants nearby so aslo a Carefour, Underground Metro not too far and also on a busy highway so easy to get Taxis from here.

Stayed one weekend at JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai at Tomorrow Square last November.

The Hotel is in the heart of Shanghai. It is located at the People’s Square, right above the People’s Square metro station and within 5 minutes walking distance to the most famous pedestrian shopping street in China, the Nanjing Road East.

The lobby is on the 38th Floor of the building, the rooms are on the upper floors. I do not like this kind of office / hotel building because the atmosphere makes one feel staying in an office tower rather than in a 5 stars hotel. The Lobby Lounge and the café are all on the same floor as the reception, it was therefore rather noisy and crowded when I arrive the Hotel in the evening. The reception staff who checked me in was cheerful and polite. I had a similar checking in experience when I stayed at the Renaissance Malmo Hotel. It seems that the ‘Marriott’ hotels can maintain a high level of service globally.

The twin room (and the washroom) is smaller than expected. Although the room overlooks the People’s Square and the People’s Park, there isn’t a great view from it due to the constant hazy sky in Shanghai.

The buffet breakfast in Marriott Café offered plenty of choices. The food was well prepared and presented. Normally I prefer not to have lunch and dinner in the hotel but as I was in a hurry, I tried the Chinese restaurant Wan Hao after checking out. It was a disappointment! The restaurant staff was busy. The food and the tea were mediocre. My mother normally would not drink any soft drink and yet she had to order a coke rather than finishing the tea.

The Hotel is a good choice if you are looking for a central location and a high level of service. But if you choose the Hotel and expect to have a grand view of the Shanghai skyline from the room, you may be disappointed.

Very Comfortable hotel. Very Friendly staff and they speak good English. Helped us a lot in planning our days. Loved the view from the lobby and the room. Wide choices of breads and fruit at breakfast. Location is excellent. Would love to stay here again.

On my recent trip to China, I spent a few nights at the JW in Shanghai. The property is in a very good location - close enough to walk to the Bund, and easy to get in and out of the city. Rooms are large, clean and I had a fantastic view from the 52nd floor. I used only the main restaurant for breakfast every day and had a business meeting in the lobby sitting area on the 38th floor. Service was top drawer, food was good and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I recommend the JW to all business travelers who are staying in Shanghai. I will return! Check it out.
