“Soup dumpling of Shanghai at Xin Tin Da”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

If you visit Shanghai, as a Westerner, you probably most likely to visit the Bund, which has the 20's and 30's financial buildings. The other place you most likely to visit would be Xin Tin Da, this area is a mix of the old and the new architectures is a must to see, and the energy from all the pubs there will keep you up all night. But if you are tired and want to have one of the best "soup dumplings" that Shanghai is famous for, you will find on the 2nd floor of Zhengda Plaza "Ding Tai Fung (they have restaurants in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Beijing, Los Angeles (Arcadia), and Seattle), you most likely have to wait for 20 or 30 minutes at dinner time, but the food is well worth the wait, on the wall of the restaurant are cartoon characters of mostly Hong Kong movie stars with the autograph. The portions are small so you can taste a large variety of food there. After your soup dumpling recharge of your stomach, you can continue your energy charging at Xin Tin Da again!

“don't miss”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

I like the taste of dumplings and I like even more how ding tai fung is doing it. The open kitchen where they make the dumplings live with a sensational dexterity. If you don't speak asian languages no problem with the picture menu.

“Even Better than Advertised”
Reviewed July 24, 2012

Before going to Din Tai Fung, I had been told great things, particularly about their xiaolongbao; the results far exceeded my expectations. The fois gras dumplings and wild mushroom with white truffle dumplings are particularly decadent; however, for first-timers, the pork dumplings and the pork with crab meat are two classics that are not to be missed. For those with a cold or other ailment, the chicken soup is, though simple, world class, and the fried rice is clean and delicious.

A reservation with a table by the window provides a wonderful view of the Bund, particularly beautiful at night with the colored lights.

The xiao long bao (steamed pork dumplings) here are the best in the world. Service is great, awesome views, good food, reasonable prices. We love it!
