“Good service, good food, good wine”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

As the title says it, the food was good and tasty, just that my steak tartare tasted only mustard, I asked to change it, they took it and didn't argue. The new tartare was much better, but still a little to mustard taste. The french manager advised a very good wine (she knows well her wine list).

“Puts the French in the French Concession”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

I am a frequent business traveler to Shanghai and Cuivre is on of my musts whenever I go. Michael (chef) and Fanny (restaurant manager) have done a fantastic job of building a unique and delicious french restaurant that focuses on amazing food in an open and friendly dining experience. There is none of the uptight service and attitude you find in many french places. Cuivre is where the french people in Shanghai eat, not Jean Georges.

On the list of must tries are the tuna tartar, the white bean truffle soup (this is amazing), the risotto (lobster or truffle), and the flat iron steak. They have an excellent wine list and the service is top notch. If you have some time on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, they do a great brunch with the best eggs Benedict in town. If you're looking for good food and a fun crowd, I highly recommend Cuivre

“Great food and friendly menagement”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

Honestly speaking I've never been a fan of french cuisine before, so when my friend suggested we tried this restaurant I wasn't too exited about it.
Well, I have to say it was one of the best dining experience I had in Shanghai.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and cozy yet refined. Food is just great, I'm officially in love with their tuna tartar! And that was just one of the many dishes I tried and liked.
Another highlight was the truffle risotto, ansolutely amazing.
Friendly Chef and Manager (both came to our table to ask if everything was ok and chat with us) is a big plus.

“A Great Choice for a French Restaurant in Shanghai”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Tried this restaurant for a celebration with my wife and very much enjoyed the food and atmosphere without burning a big hole in the pocket or getting small portions which you may be used to with other French restaurants.

Location: Great. Right in the heart of the French Concession just down the block from the US and French consulates.

Food: Very good. Escargots for starters were great. The wagyu steak was a nice size portion with a nice cranberry relish sauce. The recommended main is the "cochon noir" or black pig which is a 500g slab of pork with bone very nice done (actually couldn't finish it) but I would almost say you could share this easily. Served nice bread at the table but didn't really like the bohemian way of serving it in a brown paper bag (a bit weird).

Atmosphere: Minamalist with a very wood with copper (hence the name cuivre) design. Nice earthy but elegant feel to it. Nice touch was the traditional chinese bicycle seats that served as bar stools (creative).

Service: Decent. Nothing special but service at least was speedy and they were on top of it. That added a nice touch with the menu which is on an iPad.

Value: Actually pretty good value for a French restaurant of this caliber which probably makes this place popular with expats. Without a bottle of wine you could expect to pay about 300rmb-400rmb per head if you go the full menu (app+main+dessert) and a drink.

Occasions: Perfect for romantic meals, but great for a group as well. Business meals would go great here and not burn a hole in the pocket.

In summary I would definitely suggest residents and tourists to try this out as one of the European restaurants to checkout in Shanghai and definitely for French food. Great for special occasions.

“Average, just average”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

A table of four last week. One French, three chinese.
First time for me.
First glance, well deco is nice, those bar stools made of old bikes are fun. The main room happened later to be a bit noisy.
Using an Ipad for the menu... great idea, but as it's a rather pricy item, only one per table, not so convinient.
Cocktails first, were ok, though it really took some time to fix them.
Starters, Asparagus, taste was ok, but the sauce was too thick, too much flower I guess
'Charcuterie' platter, well so, so, la, la really and far too expensive.
Main courses; Bavette, Scallops, Risotto, and Black Pig.
In general good, but average, nothing to fall from your bike stool anyway !
Wine was good but overpriced.
Service was good though, present but not overdoing and that's nice.

As a summary, average, just average, only the price is above average.
I'm not sure I'll go again.
