We had a formal dinner here with our customers who did not want to eat Chinese food, and we were not disappointed. The steaks were perfectly cooked and enormous. The choice of wines was excellent. In fact the restaurant was so good that I will probably stay at the Kerry hotel next time I am in Shanghai as it is good food and also very convenient for the SNIEC venue next door.

We were attracted to this restaurant by a description that it was fun, and hip. What we discovered was that it was like any restaurant we had ever seen in Bethesda, Maryland ! If that's what you like you will enjoy THe Meet, otherwise there is way too much to see and enjoy in downtown Shanghai that to take the trip out to Pudong. The Kerry hotel seemed lovely, huge and very vibrant. Probably very comfortable.

We went to the Meet at Kerry Park Hotel as part of Restaurant week. It was a simple three course meal, starting with the two different types of warm break and a plethora of spreads and butter. Makings of a Caesar Salad was the first real course of the meal, it was delicious. There was the right amount of dressing, with bits of bacon and large slices of flavorful parmesan cheese. The second course was the steak and it was made perfectly medium rare the way I asked for it, YUM. The beef was soft and so flavorful I didn’t even use the sauce that came with the dish, just got some pepper and salt and devoured that piece of meat. I also paired a merlot with my entrée, a good choice. The service was wonderful, after about 90 seconds of receiving our steaks the manager came by to ask us how it was – felt like a true American courtesy being practiced in Shanghai, refreshing. The final course was the desert, they had offered a baked Alaskan, and burnt the dark rum tableside and poured it over the meringue. The ice cream as delicious and there was a hidden treasure of raspberries in the center with a thin cookie as the base. Overall the meal was delightful, wait staff was attentive, and the atmosphere was properly set for a steak centered theme. The only complaint that I have was upon entering the hotel, I was harassed by the hotel staff as to where I was going, I kept telling him “The Meet” but he insisted I show him a name card. I told him I saw the sign up ahead and I was fine but he basically walled me off on the second floor and was refusing to let me move from the spot where he had flagged me down. I was very uncomfortable since he made it seem like I needed his permission to pass or what not. To no surprise this set me in a poor mood at the beginning of the night, but after the delicious meal I bounced right back.

Hubby and I finally decided to try The Meet after hearing good reviews about it especially about the tomahawk. We are great fans of The Cook and The Brew so had high expectations.

Went on a Friday night, was not too crowded and we had a nice banquet table by the window. Lots of space, actually too much for two people. We decided to order the tomahawk despite the staff insisting it was too much for just 2 of us. It came with 2 choice of salads. On top hubby ordered two different oysters and a bottle of Argentinian red wine.

To start the salads were generous in portions, my crab meat salad however had me hunting for the very few pieces that were hiding among the leaves. Overall the salads were ok only. The menu was good in that we could order 1 oyster instead of the traditional half dozen since I am not a big oyster fan.

Then came the tomahawk. Nicely presently with two bone marrow, tomatoes and some potatoes I think. They sliced it at the table and the first few slices were great, the slightly charred sides gave a nice fragrance to the meat but then we start to get pieces of meat with lots of fat...at the end of the meal, we had left at least 30% of the "meat" which was really all fat. And we felt as if we did not really eat much. Imagine if there was really 4 people at the table, we would have to order more food.

The final bill came to slightly over 2,000 rmb, we left very disappointed with the tomahawk which is the main reason why we went in the first place.

Last night we went back to Morton's, paid almost the same amount of money and walked away totally happy and satisfied.
