We went here on the strength of Trip Advisor reviews, and it was very convenient for our hotel. We hadn't booked, and the only vacant table was outside under an umbrella, which was good as it rained - no problem with this at all. A waiter took our order - veal for my husband and lasagne for me, with a bottle of wine (expensive, but it was our last night in China). When my husband's meal arrived, the (Chinese) waiter told him it was pork, which my husband refused as he'd ordered veal. Waiter clearly not happy, went away, and the owner/manageress (Italian lady, not sure of her role, but she was clearly in charge) returned with the same meal, which she said was veal, and my husband settled down to eat it quite happily. My lasagne arrived about 3 minutes later, and I was told to be very careful as the dish was extremely hot. I'm presuming this is the dish in which it had been reheated in the oven. Initially it seemed OK, but when I tried to cut to the bottom, my knife/fork couldn't penetrate it, and on examination I could see it was burned. I called the waiter who didn't see 'burned' as a problem - I'm not sure how much of our conversations he actually understood! I asked for the manageress, who explained to me that Lasagne is normally soft on top and firmer underneath. I told her I appreciated that, but that my meal was burned and inedible. She took it away and returned offering me a different choice or lasagne. I asked for lasagne (I'd had two weeks of Chines food and really wanted lasagne!), and when questioned she acknowledged that my first meal was not acceptable. Meanwhile, my husband finished his meal, and I waited for my lasagne.... and waited! The manageress returned after 10 mins and was surprised I hadn't got my meal and went to chase it up. After another 10 mins (we'd finished the wine by now) we gave up - I found the manageress, gave her the money for my husbands meal and the wine, and we left. She chased us down the street, offering apologies and my change (50p!). She said she'd chased my meal up 3 times and was 'mortified'. I did actually believe her, but she needs to do something about her staff - the waiter's attitude was very bad, and clearly the chef needs some training in customer service.
